To me, the drydown reminds me of coal tar soap, if you've smelt that, that is this fragrance in a nutshell. I was so excited to try it out – as you’ll know if you’re aware of Charlotte Tilbury and her makeup brand, the whole collection absolutely oozes class and sophistication just like Charlotte, so I had such high hopes for what her first scent would be like. The base notes that stands out for me is Iso E Super, the stuff that makes up one of my favourite perfumes, Eccentric Molecules Molecule 01 (reviewed here). On top of that, it would be rude for me not to mention the stunning campaign that sits alongside this launch. Featuring a blend of JOY top notes including Lemon, Peach and Black Pepper, ‘FLEUROTIC’ heart notes of Jasmine, Frankincense, Tuberose and Violet, plus MAGIC MOLECULE base notes of Fire Tree, Iso E Super, Patchouli and Ambroxan. Perfume is something I relate to on an emotional and visceral level, so perhaps that’s why I appreciate Charlotte’s story and construct around her perfume.

The scent itself is dated, it's a scent which probably my grandmother or possibly my mother would have worn in the past century. It's definitely at a perfume level, and it contains the full orchestra of elements that make perfume the undisputed Queen of interpretations. Within 20 minutes or so, and the heart is just a very staid, calm floral scent that sits quite close to the skin.
