Introducing Tannus Armour, a revolutionary alternative to heavy duty anti puncture tyres and costly tubeless conversions. Typically, I would run a rear tire weighing around 1200g or 1250g. For this test I ran tires that were around two or three hundred grams lighter. My ultimate goal was to have a tire and insert that was roughly the same total weight as a heavier duty tire. There are several inner tubes that have a slime that's supposed to seal holes. It has the same problem as tubeless tires, namely that they don't seal all holes. Also when patching is needed, the slime has made a huge mess making patching impossible. FLATBIKE ASSESSMENT: Hmmm. That’s…different. Can we still afford the rest of the bike? And do we have to clean the insides of the tires after a ride? How to best keep our tires inflated? And, what’s more, is there a way that not only means we’re less likely to puncture but also includes a handful of performance benefits?

With the Tannus in the Road Cruiser, not so much as a flat, despite these conditions and never brushing the tyre casings between bike washes. Sure enough, a few tiny flints were embedded in some slimy road grime, one leaving a tiny cut in the tread, but I've resisted my default urge to plug the hole with superglue and have done 500 trouble-free miles. I should also point out that the tube used was a bog-standard and once-patched spare. Ride quality On the surface, an update to this approach sounds appealing. Flat tires are the #1 maintenance issue bringing customers into many bike shops. Both grip admirably but I personally preferred the feel of the Rimpact. That said, the CushCore was far more comfortable. For somebody who doesn't want the feel of their tire drastically changed but does want all the support they can get their hands on, it's got to be the CushCore.

Tell us what the product is for and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it? Leaking from the side of the tube. A pinch flat, between underinflated tube and rim. Keep your tires pumped. I love the creative rational idea of using an internal tire tread, which is about 85% of the tire tread width; with both the tire wire bead and non tread tire sidewalls completely cut away. Also, if you’re the type of rider who already runs full DH tyres and still suffers flats, these could be your best chance of eliminating those pesky punctures. Seven mountain bike tyre inserts rated and reviewed

The tyre was a 700x50 Big Ben Plus but I fitted a Tannus Insert of slightly smaller spec (42-47)x622 - (tyres and their sizing continues to be a nightmare for me). I chose the smaller width as one reviewer suggested it - a mistake I think in hindsight as the diameter of the insert is slightly smaller than the tyre - should be fine though as the side walls look a perfect fit. The tube lost some of its pressure on first pump up because of trapped air around the insert - it settled down after 20 minutes or so. I used the Tannus video as a guide but didn't use talcum powder in the fitting as I'd forgotten to buy it. Now that definitely helps to cut down on the internal tire tread weight to a much more practical critical lower tire tread weight amount. The Cushscore’s high weight is also its downfall because it changes the way the bike handles. The heavier-rotating mass makes it feel sluggish to change direction and is a bit of a burden on climbs. FLATBIKE ASSESSMENT: We cannot pass this up. We are now offering Tannus Armour at Flatbike, both separately and as an add-on to our our full-size folding mountain bikes. We now offer Tannus Armour for 20″, 26″, and 27.5″ wheels. Having lived in the Mojave Desert of California where goat heads roam freely, I can tell you I got at between 1 to 2 flats a ride on average, and I used Kevlar belted tires, I also tried Slime Sealant and that was a joke for high pressure road tires, once you inflate to about 70 psi the slime would just blow out of the tire and the tire was flat again. Even tried Slime in a thorn resistant tube to no avail. Goat heads even penetrated Mr. Tuffy liners! while the liners did reduce the flat frequency to about 2 a week it didn’t stop them. Only when I switched to Specialized Armadillo All Condition tires did I no longer get flats, in fact I didn’t get a flat for about 15,000 miles, and when I did finally get a flat it was due to a Specialized Armadillo tire being worn down to where the cords were showing.

What are the different types of bike tyres

RUN FLAT - If you do get a flat tyre you can still ride for a limited period at up to 6mph without damaging your wheel.
