One of BanglaSoc’s biggest aims is to help freshers settle into their new life at University. Often many of our members come from households where they are the first to attend university and this can be a daunting prospect for some. Through hosting a range of social events BanglaSoc has helped many of our members ease into the transition of moving away from home. More information for incoming freshers can be found in our members area! It’s popular with locals and tourists alike, and you can also find fresh veggies, fruits, and fruit juices (including durian)! You can even visit the Nusa islands on a day trip and return to Sanur Bali in the same day if you’re so inclined, although I think it’s worth staying longer! Another nice beach in Sanur is the long stretch in front of Hyatt Regency, which is part of Sanur Beach proper. This one is lined with colorful jukung boats, and it has great views of the Mount Agung volcano in the distance.

There’s a new walking path in good condition, and you can take your bicycle or scooter on it for a nice scenic ride. This is an imposing monument in Bali’s capital city of Denpasar, just a 10 minute drive from Sanur. Obviously exploring a haunted park like this is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I thought it was fascinating to see the giant banyan trees starting to swallow up the buildings. It’s like the Angkor Wat of theme parks! BanglaSoc caters for all its members in all walks of University life, be it academic, social or cultural. The Sindhu market in north Sanur gets lively at night, and it usually goes until at least 11 PM. You can find cheap local food there, plus fresh fruit and veggies. This is a small night market in north Sanur where you can buy local cooked foods like Nasi Campur, Satay, and Nasi Goreng at very reasonable prices. Italian Deborah De Luca is a queen of new school techno with richly melodic sounds and plenty of killer cuts to her name, while Moon Harbour boss Matthias Tanzmann is a definitive tech house star with an irresistible sound and German born, Jamaican raised Melanie Ribbe is a breakout talent who is coming off a huge season in Ibiza who has established herself as a multi-talented artist with fresh sound and fellow Ibiza legend Ilario Alicante also plays. It has lots of good restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a supermarket, pharmacy, and multi-screen cinema. A boutique hotel right where the action is, Maison Aurelia is an oasis of local charm and Indonesian heritage. The interior is inspired by colonial houses, and each of the 42 guestrooms are beautifully decorated with wooden furniture and flooring, as well as plush sofas and beds for ultimate comfort. And don’t be fooled by the size – you’ll be able to find your typical resort staples like a swimming pool with a kids pool, a jacuzzi and a fitness centre. If that’s not enough, Sanur’s best restaurants are right on the doorstep. This is a very basic recipe and I do chop and change it when I feel like it. Adding ginger and garlic definitely improves the taste of Sana Biran but if you don’t have these to hand cook without. I vary the spices I add to this dish, on this occasion I added just turmeric powder and mixed curry powder, other times I add cumin powder, coriander powder and chilli powder.
