Step Five: Pour just enough water to fully saturatethe grounds and let the coffee expand and bloom for 30-45 seconds. If you don’t mind about these reasons, the circle filter will be the best fit for you, because most of the time, it’s the cheaper buy. James Hoffmann. (2020, June 19). [Video]. YouTube. When choosing the best Chemex coffee filters, it’s not about which is objectively the best; it’s about how you want to enjoy your coffee. The best option is the one that balances the style of coffee you enjoy with your budget and environmental concerns.

Works well with all types of roasts- even tea! Allowing you to make the perfect and most pure cup, every time Note: this is all my personal rambling opinion—”better” is a meaningless word here, exactly zero scientific rigor or actual quantifiable research was used, and I paid for everything myself. So today I wanted to share with youeverything I’ve learned about brewing coffee with my Chemex Coffee Maker. And let you know that you too can take the easy brewing route and still havea darn goodcup of coffee! What is a Chemex? Step Six: Pour your water in a slow, circular fashion until you’ve filled the top nearly full (about a half inchbelow the top). As the water starts to drain, continue adding more water until your kettle is empty (if you’re using an eight cup Chemex), or until you’ve reached just below the wood handle. So, the last and certainly the most important question to ask is if there’s a difference in taste between the circle and square Chemex filters.

The Chemex is a beautiful and functional coffee maker that you can use to make your favorite cup of joe. The answer to this is no. There is no difference between these two very different-looking coffee filters. I love the Chemex, and it’s one of my favorite coffee brewers. The first cup of coffee I brewed with the Chemex was with a circle filter, and it looks like this: When I first got my Chemex, I’ll be honest. That stuff intimidated me. I’m a smart girl with an MBA, but I sure didn’t feel like doing math equations and pulling out timers and scales every morning just to brew a cup of coffee!

I personally believe that buying the cheapest Chemex filters is the way to go. Because there is hardly a difference between them, it all comes down to the price and if you prefer the look of one over the other. Manuele, J. (2018, January 25). Hemp Vs Cotton Clothing: We Have a Clear Winner. Retrieved from https://medium.com/@jamesmanuele2017/hemp-vs-cotton-clothing-we-have-a-clear-winner-9d12785ebd50 The result? Deliciously smooth and balanced coffee, every time. Well, sort of… as long as you get your Chemex brewing technique down, your scale is precise, you know the magic ratio and the proper water temperatures. Chemex filters are designed with a particular purpose in mind – extracting the best flavor from your coffee beans.A coffee filter impacts a coffee’s flavour by dictating how many coffee oils and fines (finely ground coffee) it lets through into the cup ( 6). Coffee oils and fines affect both the taste and body of the resulting cup of coffee ( 7). Step Seven: Once your Chemex is full, remove the filter and grounds and enjoy your freshly brewed cup of coffee.

As for the square versus circular filters, there’s really no difference. Though I do find the little points on the square make it easy to lift out. And of course I went with natural, because I always choose unbleached anything if possible. What is the best Chemex grind size?

Because the coffee filters are made in the same way but are simply cut differently, you won’t notice a difference in taste. A nice benefit of the alternative filters is that many have the versatility to be used with other drippers as well. Some coffee filters are a great option if you also have a Hario V60 or other coffee maker with a cone filter. Why Filter Material Matters So what do I do after I’ve brewed a full batch in my Chemex? I save and refrigerate my leftover coffee to be reheated the next day. I’m sure this is blasphemy to coffee connoisseurs, but I’m all about easy and not having to wash my Chemex every day if I don’t have to. It’s like batch cooking. To my credit, Chemex themselves state that coffee can be reheated (without any bitterness) after it’s been refrigerated insealed container. Win! What about Chemex filters? Chemex is without a doubt one of the most popular methods of brewing coffee. This simple glass carafe allows for complete control over the entire brewing process, from the bean to the cup.
