Description

Though set almost entirely in a studio set graveyard, The Restless Ghost is surprisingly atmospheric, a pleasing pastiche of Victorian and Edwardian ghosts stories with a dash or two of Hammer horror thrown in for good measure.

Our online collections hold information on over 800,000 film titles – including television programmes, documentaries, newsreels, as well as educational and training films. It started with an Auction where the kids discover an old civil war helmet which starts glowing, or something to the limit of the LWT effects department.

Spooky aired shortly before the main series was broadcast, exploring the supernatural vein that would appear throughout Dramarama s run. Entertainment Magpie Limited t/a Music Magpie is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority FRN 775278. Like many of the Spooky episodes – and indeed a lot of the Dramarama stories – the acting of the young leads is a little “stage schooly” but it’s unlikely that its young target audience would have noticed, instead being drawn into the drama. As usual, I would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Network for taking the trouble to licence and master these marginal interest pieces.

The story is also set in a gloomy cottage in the woods and involves the discovery of a dark, dark trunk in a dark, dark cupboard, and a mystery about what might be inside the dark, dark box that it contains. I forget most of it but I remember the boy is told not to go through a certain set of doors or he’ll lose his mind. It's a short little tale that uses many well worn tricks to build suspense - eerie acoustic instruments, predominantly a dulcimer, and a restless camera that's constantly circling and hovering just behind Peter and, particularly, Janet - but it must be remembered this is a show made for kids for whom many of these tricks of the trade would be new and also they are well worn because they work. Nicholas Ball, best known at the time for his leading role in the popular private detective drama Hazell (1978-1979), stars in David Hopkins’ story of the eponymous smug, egotistical radio DJ, the host of a confrontational late-night phone-in show.ABSORBING drama based on the Pamela Sykes novel about the titular girl (EMMA BAKHLE) who went to stay with some cousins she hardly knew. There are shades of Antonia Barber’s novel Ghosts and its subsequent film adaptation The Amazing Mr Blunden (1972) about War Games with Caroline but that’s not to its detriment – it has enough interesting new wrinkles of its own to prevent it from being a simple copycat.

Uniquely, various episodes were made by different ITV franchises and the first series was broadcast in two parts. A teacher has to interrogate the other kids who witnessed it but who don’t want to grass him up before the police arrive to find out what happened.
