Description

I sold my Pany 7-14mm because the CA was always present and purple flare blobs were too frequent when used with Olympus bodies. The built-in lens hood seems to protect the front glass better on the 7-14 than on the 8mm Fisheye, primarily because the latter lens is in a fixed position to the hood. Again the centre is ludicrously sharp wide open, to the extent that it’s inducing coloured moire patterns in the brickwork, but now the corner is much improved, even at f/2.

Anyway…if you and Jeff want to see sharp…get your hands on one of those new SamYang/Rokinon SP 14mm f/2. The zoom ring also goes from minimum to maximum in about a quarter of a turn, with markings at 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 14mm. If you want to know more about how Aperture and Focal Range are affected in the world of Micro Four Thirds then check out this post right here! I shot mainly with the E-M5 mark II during these past three weeks and I got used to it in the end but an optional landscape grip could be a good investment if it becomes your go-to lens. The lens hood offers physical protection to the front element and is there not only for reducing flare and ghosting. Its functional design helps reduce strain when being carried for extended periods and lets you quickly find necessary items. Before we get into the touchy feely bits, I want to share what I see as the pitfalls of this ultra wide lens (and to be fair all ultra wides). from the lens front, special multi coatings for minimising ghosting and flare and an integrated lens hood. An ultra wide/wide angle lens is missing from my bag at the minute and I wasn’t totally sure which was best for me.

Not least of which is down to Yahoo’s horrible and constant tinkering to try and turn it into an instagram clone. Autofocusing is never going to be a huge challenge for an ultra-wide lens, and as you’d expect the Olympus 7-14mm f2.

Can't say it's a real drawback, and it may be the rough handling that my gear goes through on my travels, but it's something to be aware of. I didn’t come across any problems except for when I reached the limit of the minimum focus distance. I own this lens, so was keen to see how it compares against the new Olympus and you can find out as my review-in-progress unfolds! I’ve tried very hard to find something wrong with this lens, but in truth I really can’t pick fault at it.A suite of aspherical, extra-low dispersion and high-refractive index elements are featured within the optical design and help to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range for increased clarity and sharpness. The only distortion worth talking about is of course perspective distortion, which is the main characteristic of this type of lens. Indeed when used with the OM-D E-M5 Mark II’s high resolution composite 40-million-pixel mode, it still clearly has resolution to spare.

Quite simply: the Olympus PRO range of lenses are Olympus’ answer to Canon’s L series lenses if you will.

In short, Olympus have done it again and have produced yet another lens more than able to take on the mantle of being a ‘PRO’ lens.
