Scotland's Itison Drive-In Movies launched in 2013, but from 29 July to 4 August 2020 will up its game to provide in-car quizzes, 'car-aoke' and street food delights, as well as outdoor cinema. Keeping this corner of the Scottish Highlands supplied with Hollywood staples, this new two-screen cinema is a far-flung jewel in the country’s cine-crown. It’s the brainchild of local entrepreneur Angus MacDonald, who set about restoring a picturehouse to his home town in the style of a bothy (or Highland shelter). The corrugated roofand wood-burning stove lend a satisfying sense of history; the whizz-bang laser projectors and sound keep things cutting edge on screen. Phil de Semlyen The Formovie Theater’s sleek design and bright, living room friendly image makes it a good choice for watching TV in a relatively well-lit room. And when you turn off the lights for movie viewing, its punchy contrast and very good shadow detail will do the best discs and streams justice.
