Released in March 2022, the HDJ-CX are professional on-ear DJ headphones from Pioneer DJ– similar in many ways to the Sennheiser HD 25s that we’ve just covered. Their minimalist design allows them to be extremely lightweight (they’re technically the second lightest on this list, but only by a few grams!), with a unique split headband for extra customization and comfort.

I found the headband a little narrow, meaning the top half of the earpads pushed harder on my ears than the bottom half. But apart from that they felt comfy enough. They’re certainly no less comfortable than my HD 25s, which actually apply more pressure on the ears. They just feel a bit different. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail.AlphaTheta Corporation has today announced the release of the brand new professional on-ear DJ headphone from its Pioneer DJ brand: the HDJ-CX. The HDJ-CX professional on-ear DJ headphones feature a minimalist yet sturdy design with tight, wide-ranging audio and powerful sound providing precise monitoring and mixing in any environment. The bass reflex chambers improve low frequency response even further while the sound insulators create a higher level of audio insulation, so you’ll hear the full bass sound along with every nuance in the music. Main features of the Pioneer DJ HDJ-CX DJ Headphones include:• Super-lightweight professional on-ear DJ headphones The HDJ-CX ‘phones have a surprisingly full sound, with deeper bass than I was expecting, which is a good thing. Pioneer DJ says they go down to 4Hz or something, which is ridiculous as we can’t hear anywhere near that low, but hey. Bottom line: They sound really nice, like bigger headphones.

Comfort-wise, the ear pads are made from nylon and contain memory foam, making them extremely comfortable. For monitoring purposes, the clamping force on your head is also about right (meaning you wouldn’t want them on your ears constantly, same as with all on-ear designs). When you copy something like the HD 25s, you’re going to draw comparisons – and these are definitely a copy, if not exactly the same. Trouble is, it’s like comparing any other turntable with the Technics 1210 Mk2 – something that has proven itself over and over again, its very reliability being its strength. After testing them ourselves, these things are plenty loud enough, offering crisp highs and a pronounced bass output – which is just what you need for mixing in noisy environments. They’re also very well-padded and lightweight, with rotating ear cups and an extendable headband that would fit most people.Of course, the highs aren’t going to be very pronounced on a DJ headphone, but the frequencies aren’t rolled off either. They actually possess a pretty flat timbre that appears even and well communicated. It presents a good amount of clarity with a solid amount of volume to the treble region. Summary As referenced frequently in this post, these are all things you’d want to see in a decent set of DJ headphones: The bass reflex chambers bring plenty of response on the low end. Because of this, the highs perhaps don’t come through quite as crisply compared to the Sennheisers – but again, it’s down to personal preference. We found that the noise isolation was also very good HDJ-CXs, so no complaints there. In addition to the HDJ-CX headphones themselves, Pioneer DJ include useful accessories that improve their longevity and let you adapt them to different listening contexts. In the box you receive a 3m coiled cable that’s suited for pro DJ and studio use, a straight 1.6m cable for casual and on-the-go listening, a pair of replacement ear pads and a handy 1/4" plug holder to keep your adaptor secure during a performance. Another nice (and premium) selling point is that the polyurethane leather used for the ear pads and headband has a Nano coating on it. This is resistant to sweat, dirt and general deterioration.

First headphones in the world to reproduce frequencies from 5 Hz to 40 kHz in the DJ headphones market (according to research conducted by Pioneer DJ Corporation Ltd, 21st August 2017). Professional-quality on-ear headphones for DJs with an ultra-comfortable lightweight design, robust construction and high-fidelity audio reproduction. Light Form FactorThese on-ear DJ headphones give you superior insulation from a durable and robust construction with interchangeable parts and accessories. The HDJ-CX headphones by and large look and feel like the HD 25s, with the added advantage of easily detachable cables, plus a choice of coiled or straight cables in the box, and spare pads provided. Plus, they sound good, and are about the same price. The HDJ-CX headphones have a surprisingly full sound, with deeper bass than expected, and a featherlight fit. Deliveries will be made subject to the terms and conditions of the courier company. djkit.com will not be held responsible for late deliveries. For the price, you really can’t go wrong, although just be aware they might get a little uncomfortable when wearing them for longer DJ sets as the ear cups are quite small. And whilst these are definitely not a premium set of cans, you wouldn’t expect them to break anytime soon! Approximate price: As one of their major selling points, the brand makes it super-easy to customize your own pair, with the option to interchange the headband, ear pads, drivers, and all the cables.

It might not seem like the Pioneer HDJ-CX is that special, but it can be pretty reliable for a good sound. As far as accurate studio headphones go, there is a ton of strong competition, but if you’re specifically looking for a flat ear cup with a focus on bass, then the CX will better speak to you. Pros Other design functions: They should be well-padded, lightweight and easy to adjust. These are all essential for comfort and extended use/longer DJ sets. Following on nicely, we have the massively popular HD 25s from Sennheiser. These are an on-ear design for professional DJs, and some would say the ‘industry standard’! Despite the all-plastic build the HD 25s are extremely robust, and they’re capable of handling high sound levels without any distortion. Noise isolation is also very good considering they’re an on-ear design, and the rotatable capsule makes single-ear listening super easy.

Pioneer DJ HDJ-CX Lightweight On-Ear DJ Headphones Overview

Bear in mind the TMA 2 DJ XE are already optimized for DJing on arrival. The different components come individually wrapped, so you’ll need to assemble the headphones yourself …which is really easy to do. The Pioneer HDJ-CX Lightweight On-Ear DJ Headphones are designed for professionals, with an ultra-lightweight design that will make you forget you're wearing headphones at all! Combining superior comfort with stunning, balanced sound quality; the HDJ-CX set a new standard for DJ headphones with a robust yet flexible design. Ultimately, they seem like good headphones. If you want Pioneer DJ, and you want minimal, this is your choice. But if I had to put money on which model will still be around 5, 10 or even 20 years from now, it’d be the Sennheisers. They remain the classic by which any pretenders will be judged, and they’ll be hard to topple. Set your headphones up the way you like by choosing from the 2 supplied cables – straight or coiled. To make sure you never lose your 1/4" plug adapter, clip the adapter holder neatly onto your cable so it’s always at hand. A pair of replacement ear pads are also included, and you can expect them to come in handy eventually because these headphones should serve you well for a long time. Sufficient bass response: As well as generally being louder, DJ headphones will generate more bass than consumer or studio headphones would. This is necessary for monitoring a DJ mix in noisy environments such as bars & clubs, etc.
