Description

Once infused, you can expect a green, golden beverage that is sugar-free, naturally crisp and lively with the aroma of fresh mint upon the first sip. There are many legends and myths surrounding the origin of this famous tea and as many original recipes! If you are new to green teas, then Chun Mee, Gunpowder, or Sencha are the best places to start, but always remember to use water at 80C, boiling water kills the green tea flavour. When making / and drinking Green Tea, it's a tea that you expect to be light and golden in colour, this tea meets this expectations, but without the strength of Whittards etc.

Whether you're looking for a refreshing morning tea or a relaxing evening brew, our Supreme Temple of Heaven Gunpowder tea is sure to deliver. Should you need a pick-me-up first thing in the morning, you’ve chosen well in Gunpowder Loose Green Tea. It was later introduced to Algeria by the great Saharan dynasty of the Ouled Sidi Cheikh, who adapted it from the Moroccans and Algerians as a luxurious beverage. With little in the way of guidance, I decided just to use a teaspoonful in a mug and hey presto, a 15+ year love affair was to start. The name 'Gunpowder' derives from its process, as once the leaves have been withered and steamed they are rolled into small pellets, without breaking the leaf veins, so the enzymes, or juices of the leaf are not released.Immerse yourself in the crisp and refreshing embrace of mint, carefully blended to complement the intensity of gunpowder green tea. Simply pour freshly boiled water into your cup or pot and leave it for two to three minutes before adding the tea, or use a kettle with variable temperature setting. I first encountered this tea at a now sadly gone Chinese supermarket which wasn't far from the Broadmarsh Centre in Nottingham. The leaves unfurl to produce a golden green liquor with a lightly smoked, buttery and nutty character.

This tea was harvested in the late months of spring leading to a great depth of flavour due to the build up of nutrients over the cold winter in the Zhejiang Province. A golden, green tea liquor is created as the pellet unfurls, infused with mint for a refreshing taste. Each tea leaf is rolled into a tiny ball (these little pellets were mistaken for gunpowder by sixteenth century traders, hence the name).Leaves being processed into gunpowder tea are withered first, then steamed, rolled into pellet shape, and dried. Rolling renders the leaves less susceptible to physical damage during packaging and storage, and allows them to retain more of their flavor and aroma. It is also possible that the English term may stem from the Mandarin Chinese phrase for 'freshly brewed', gāng pào de ( 剛 泡 的), which sounds similar to the English word gunpowder. The tea leaves are hand-rolled into small pellets that resemble gunpowder, giving the tea its unique name.

It’s strong, it’s coloury, it’s got a wonderful nutty flavour that I really do enjoy, and it takes the milk well. When the rolled tea leaves are brewed, they begin to crackle which is how it got the name "gunpowder tea". Our Gunpowder Supreme Green is our finest gunpowder expression, rich with the characteristic sweetness of fresh summer grass and the subtle smokiness of smouldering oak. The result is that caffeine has the opposite effect, making you feel more energised and less sleepy.Gunpowder Green Tea Bags can be placed into your compost heap or disposed at a local recycling centre. It’s not going to do all of the work for you, though, so be sure to keep up those morning jogs and evening salads. This Gunpowder tea was grown in the Zhejiang Province, China and is rolled into small pellets where it closely resembles gunpowder. Add lemon and a sprig of mint to create a refined iced tea refresher – ideal served by the jug-full in the afternoon sunshine.

The name may also have arisen from the fact that the rolled pellet "explodes" into a long leaf upon being steeped in hot water. No one is sure who created the original Earl Grey blend or indeed what it was like but we are confident that our use of the genuine, highest quality ingredients will make you feel that you have only really now discovered the real Earl Grey yourself. Gunpowder tea is exported to North Africa where it is used in the preparation of traditional Moroccan (North African) mint tea, made by adding mint and sugar or honey to gunpowder tea while brewing. In terms of its appearance, gunpowder green tea is tightly rolled and the high quality is clearly visible upon inspection. The best-known green tea from the Anhui Province of China grown 6000 feet above sea level with leaves which are rolled into tight pellets.

Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product. Originally referred to as Pearl Tea, it gets the name 'Gunpowder' from an English clerk who mistaken the tea for gunpowder due to its appearance. When steeped in hot water, the tightly rolled pellets gently unfurl to produce a deliciously fragrant and dark-colored tea. Later on in the afternoon I might try something like a Darjeeling that has the muscatel flavour, or maybe even a high-grown Ceylon, but definitely my favourite brew, and the one that I drink the most of, is English Breakfast. Gunpowder Green Tea Pyramid Tea Bags present a light, grassy gunpowder green tea with a soft aroma and robust level of harshness.
