This isn't my answer yet, just some observations. I might take a stab at creating a computer simulation that can be easily customized with different numbers of players, different player strategies, and possibly different rule sets (children's variant where the outermost cards are public information, and perhaps a reverse of the normal rules where the outermost cards are only known to player whose hand they are in, but the innermost cards are known to every other player). These are the games that are pulled out most frequently when friends are over the house. They are also the games I most frequently give to my children’s friends. I promise you that they are easy to learn, fun to play, and they have high replay value.

Bonus: Reverse Charades is another game that would work for reluctant readers- communication skills are huge in this game! Reverse Charades encourages cooperation and teamwork. The game requires that children play with words and ideas and get creative and playful. It’s a great game for wiggle worms! It can also encourage more timid players to come out of their shells a bit, as is safety in numbers! Rat-a-Tat Cat is a memory card game designed by Monty and Ann Stambler [1] and published by Gamewright. It won a Mensa Select award in 1996. The Washington Post described it as "like poker for kids". [2] The ideal game if you’re looking for something easy to learn and teach to others, although despite being an easy game to play it doesn’t diminish the fun at all.

PicWits is another hilarious game that would be perfect for your next family gathering. This one plays like Apples to Apples except instead of written responses, there are photo replies. There are several ways that you can choose. A popular one is setting a score where players bust if they reach it across multiple rounds and get eliminated from the game. Get rid of the rats and go for the cats! In Rat-a-Tat Cat, less is always better, and you want to go out with the lowest score. Can you remember the numbers on other players' cards?

From the reasoning above, we can see that Power Cards in hand are actually worth more than '5' on average as then number of cards are drawn. In a 5 player game, if the discard pile gets reshuffled into a new draw pile a hidden Power Card is worth 7.4 on average. Quite often the best way to introduce something educational is in the form of a card game. Teach your kids the Rat a Tat Cat rules to encourage their math development and also introduce them to card game skills from a young age. If you want your kids to giggle uncontrollably, you have to play this game with them! It is absolutely hilarious. Not Parent Approved is an award-winning fill-in-the-blank game that will have your entire family in stitches. This game is inspired by the adult game, Cards Against Humanity, but unlike that game, this one is entirely appropriate for families. When you draw a Draw 2 card, show the card and then you may take two more turns. First you draw the next card from the draw pile. Can you keep a poker face, but notice when another player looks really pleased? Sharpen your memory and your timing, and have fun with the cool cats and bad rats of Rat-a-Tat Cat.

After all, not just any game is able to win the Mensa Select award, which Rat a Tat Cat managed in 1996. For each round, there is a judge. The judge plays a caption card. The caption card might say something like “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing!” or “I know I’m going to regret this” or “It seemed like a good idea at the time” or “That’s going to leave a mark” and each player selects her best photo for that round’s caption. There are three types of Power Cards that may provide special abilities to the player that uses them. There are Peek Power Cards, which allow the player to peek at any one of their facedown cards. The Swap Power Cards allow the player to swap any of one of their cards with one of another players. This is optional, and the player who drew the card can decline, as they are unable to look at either of the cards they are swapping.Swap – Swap one of your cards for a card of another player. These cards are face down while swapping, so bluffing and strategy is important here. If you want to keep it simple though, go with a standard tally and count up how many games each player wins. Frequently Asked Questions Are there any Rat a Tat Cat rules that you can adjust for younger players? Just like the game set up, learning the Rat a Tat Cat rules is very straightforward. Starting the Game

Choose one player to be the dealer. The oldest player can be the scorekeeper. The scorekeeper will record each player's score at the end of each round of play. Each player now knows two cards of each of the other players. Only the face down cards may be swapped with a Swap card. All other rules of play are the same.

Have all the cards face up so that they can work on numerical skills instead. Alternative games to Rat a Tat Cat https://youtube.com/watch?v=vDDmlze433M Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: How To Play Rat-A-Tat-Tat (https://youtube.com/watch?v=vDDmlze433M)
