I absolutely loved this book from start to finish, I enjoyed reading about the Queens life from childhood until her last days, I liked reading about her relationships with her sister, her friends and those close to her.

He claimed: “I had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma – bone marrow cancer – which would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those ‘mobility issues’ we were often told about during the last year or so of her life.It was refreshing to explore the life and personality of the Queen on a level you don’t very often see or hear of.

This intimate, personal biography of Queen Elizabeth II tells the story of her remarkable life, reign and times, from a perspective unlike any other. Her reaction to her health woes was that “she accepted this with all the good grace you’d expect”, Brandreth wrote. But, as I say, she was immensely private - who could blame her - and so there isn’t a whole heap to go on. But she sometimes struggled to keep up with the plot and disliked the constant “mumbling” on it and other programmes. Gyles Brandreth goes into great detail with information about the queen’s life and what she was really like as a person.

We are thrilled to welcome Gyles Brandreth back to Windsor for this special event to speak on his biography of Queen Elizabeth II published on 8thDecember. Lovely to read a new and detailed biography of the Queen; it would’ve been even better if the author wasn’t an old, snobbish tosser, constantly sneering about members of the royal family of whom he does not approve. Gyles Brandreth sheds new light on actions and circumstances that makes it easier to understand what it must have been like to have been in the spotlight of the world every day of her life. I also hate the slight digs at everyone who isn’t the queen, they just take away from the book and make me feel like I’m reading another tabloid article. A personal account of the life and character of Britain's longest-reigning monarchThis intimate, personal biography of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II tells the story of her remarkable life, reign and times, from a perspective unlike any other.

Conversely, Sir Alan “Tommy” Lascelles, for reasons unknown, gets almost his whole Who’s Who entry printed, as if the fact that he was a member of the Travellers private gentleman’s club is important to his estimation of the then Lt Philip Mountbatten.
