Fun with Acronyms: Dr. Syncho can channel a collective of five fifth Dimensional intelligences; Jxchn, Eylhm, Rez, Raz, and Yzd. They're called J.E.R.R.Y. for short. Culver: One of the benefits of not being a TV show with a budget is we can just go for it [ laughs]. DENNIS CULVER:I was having a call with my editor, Ben Abernathy,as Future State: Gothamwas wrapping up, talking about what’s next. [ Chris Burnham] and I — along with Josh Williamson— had worked on a section of Justice League Incarnatewhere Burnham drew the history of every crisis that has ever happened. So Ben said, you guys work so well together, you should do something together.

More to the point, the Doom Patrol is perfectly positioned as the superhero team to take point in the DCU in the ongoing absence of the Justice League. Yes, there is a relaunch of the Titans coming later this year, but the Titans have always been something of a younger extension of the core Justice League members’ legacies. The Doom Patrol, on the other hand, have always been the unique misfit team, the quirky outcasts who usually don’t get to play with the DCU’s cool kids. The series places the team front and center in the DCU to take on a nefarious supervillain team-up as Monsieur Mallah and General Immortus join forces for their latest fiendish scheme. Initially planned to run for six issues, fan support ahead of the series’ launch led to an interlude being added, extending the title’s run to seven issues as a testament to the quirky ensemble’s enduring appeal. Burnham: Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with that. [ Laughs] My take on it is maybe a little different than in the past. She's going through a full physical transformation each and every time, and not just swapping out hairstyles or outfits. She looks like a different being every time.

Doom Patrol and the Dawn of DC

Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Defied in the first issue, which opens with the Doom Patrol fighting a company experimenting on a metahuman in Gotham. Batman chafes at their intervention, but gets brushed off as not making enough effort to insure the safety or well-being of metahumans. Issue 3 has Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner discuss this and how they're stepping on a lot of toes, with Guy thinking they're not so bad if they stood up to Batman. The same issue has Robotman attempt to shake off the pursuing Green Lanterns by cutting through Smallville, reasoning that they'll stay out of Superman's home turf. It doesn't work. Pacing is one of the comic’s strong suits. The transition from the relatively lighthearted training exercise to the sudden invasion of General Immortus’s forces creates a sense of urgency and tension. The pacing keeps readers engaged, and the action sequences are well-choreographed, delivering a dynamic and immersive experience. Mythology Gag: The final issue's cover features the caption "Is this the end of the Doom Patrol?", alluding to how the cover of the original series' final issue note aside from three additional issues printed a few years later that were solely reprints of earlier stories that killed off the original team read "Is this the beginning of the end of the Doom Patrol?"

Burnham: Yeah, and the fact that she's looking in the mirror and the scratch-off is like that reflective metal, it's totally perfect. It's amazing. It all worked out [ laughs]. CHAINSAW NUN is a deep cut for Jane's alters and has only appeared among the other alters in the Underground. Burnham's take on her is super rad and I can't wait until you see her in action. Of the main Doom Patrol cast -- Elasti-Girl, Robotman, Negative Man, etc. -- who really stands out in your series? Actually a Doombot: When the Doom Patrol confront Brian McClane, he turns out to be a robot double when Degenerate attempts to tear him apart.Body Surf: In his therapy session with Dr. Syncho, Cliff mentions a theory that he's actually a metahuman with the power of a "quantum consciousness" that maintains continuity between all the bodies he's had. This even includes the period of time the Cliff on the team was a fictional counterpart brought to life. Atrocious Alias: Robotman and Guy Gardner aren't impressed that a metahuman consisting of a Starro probe merging with its human host chose to call himself "StarBro".
