Description

of the book is a rehash of "lives of the scientists" who discovered "important" things. Really? Was that necessary? From the acclaimed author of Taipei, a bold portrait of a writer working to balance all his lives—artist, son, loner—as he spins the ordinary into something monumental. An engrossing, hopeful novel about life, fiction, and where the two blur together. In 2014, a novelist named Li leaves Manhattan to visit his parents in Taipei for ten weeks. He doesn't know it yet, but his life will begin to deepen and complexify on this trip. As he flies between these two worlds--year by year, over four years--he will flit in and out of optimism, despair, loneliness, sanity, bouts of chronic pain, and drafts of a new book. He will incite and temper arguments, uncover secrets about nature and history, and try to understand how to live a meaningful life as an artist and a son. But how to fit these pieces of his life together? Where to begin? Or should he leave society altogether? Exploring everyday events and scenes--waiting rooms, dog walks, family meals--while investigatively venturing to the edges of society, where culture dissolves into mystery, Lin shows what it is to write a novel in real time. Illuminating and deeply felt, as it builds toward a stunning, if unexpected, romance, Leave Society is a masterly story about life and art at the end of history. A VINTAGE ORIGINAL After watching quite a few of Barbara O'Neill's presentations on YouTube, I was glad to find she has written a book. It's another testimony of the healing ability of the body when the body is properly cared for. I love the title of the book because it implies that our Creator created our bodies to self heal.

Well-written and mostly easy to understand, this book has given me a much deeper understanding of the inner works of the body and how to stay healthy! She goes in depth on the acid/alkaline balance of the body and how to restore balance with 8 habits:In this spectacular new novel, Barbara O’Neal delivers a generous helping of the best in life–family, food, and love–in the story of a woman’s search for the one thing worth more than anything. At thirty-seven, Tessa Harlow is still working her way down her list of goals to “fall in love and have a family.” A self-described rolling stone, Tessa leads hiking tours for adventurous vacationers–it’s a job that’s taken her around the world but never a step closer to home. Then a freak injury during a trip already marred by tragedy forces her to begin her greatest adventure of all. Located high in the New Mexico mountains, Las Ladronas has become a magnet for the very wealthy and very hip, but once upon a time it was the setting of a childhood trauma Tessa can only half remember. Now, as she rediscovers both her old hometown and her past, Tessa is drawn to search-and-rescue worker Vince Grasso. The handsome widower isn’t her type. No more inclined to settle down than Tessa, Vince is the father of three, including an eight-year-old girl as lost as Tessa herself. But Tessa and Vince are both drawn to the town’s most beloved eatery–100 Breakfasts–and to each other. For Tessa, the restaurant is not only the key to the mystery that has haunted her life but a chance to find the home and the family she’s never known. You know how to code in Elixir; now learn to think in it. Learn to design libraries with intelligent layers that shape the right data structures, flow from one function into the next, and present the right APIs. Embrace the same OTP that's kept our telephone systems reliable and fast for over 30 years. Move beyond understanding the OTP functions to knowing what's happening under the hood, and why that matters. Using that knowledge, instinctively know how to design systems that deliver fast and resilient services to your users, all with an Elixir focus. Elixir is gaining mindshare as the programming language you can use to keep you software running forever, even in the face of unexpected errors and an ever growing need to use more processors. This power comes from an effective programming language, an excellent foundation for concurrency and its inheritance of a battle-tested framework called the OTP. If you're using frameworks like Phoenix or Nerves, you're already experiencing the features that make Elixir an excellent language for today's demands. This book shows you how to go beyond simple programming to designing, and that means building the right layers. Embrace those data structures that work best in functional programs and use them to build functions that perform and compose well, layer by layer, across processes. Test your code at the right place using the right techniques. Layer your code into pieces that are easy to understand and heal themselves when errors strike. Of all Elixir's boons, the most important one is that it guides us to design our programs in a way to most benefit from the architecture that they run on. The experts do it and now you can learn to design programs that do the same. What You Need: Elixir Version 1.7 or greater. This new book challenges the medical model of the psychotherapist as healer who merely applies the proper nostrum to make the client well. Instead, the authors view the therapist as a coach, collaborator, and teacher who frees up the client's innate tendency to heal. This book offers provocative reading for clinicians intrigued by the process of therapy and the process of change. The body can self heal by its very design, and you can design a program that will enable the body to do the very thing it was made to do - heal itself."--Publisher description. Barbara O'Neill is an amazing teacher, tutor and advisor! She takes the vast amount of knowledge she has consumed & experienced and brings all the good stuff together for the reader. Where have I seen these before? More of that Seventh Day Adventist wisdom! Each point is covered fully. Though this isn't a cancer book per se, it does offer a 6-week Cancer Conquering Diet, one low in glucose to help starve the cancer. There are a few herbal supplements recommended, but nothing too crazy and expensive. She advises following the Cancer Conquering Diet with the Anti-Fungal diet afterwards.
