Tamron’s new 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 is compatible with many of the advanced features that are specific to certain mirrorless cameras. These include the following: Given the 300mm maximum reach, the Tamron 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is a surprisingly lightweight and compact lens.

As with most telephoto zoom lenses, the resolution drops as you zoom in, but this budget lens still holds its own well, producing good to very good resolution at all apertures until diffraction robs the lens of contrast and sharpness below f/22. Shooting at these apertures would be a creative decision though.

This is a great lens for the Sony system. The running joke about the Sony lens among Canikon users was its half as good at twice the price. A good number of people chose to adapt a Canon and save a few hundred. At 300mm the resolution is still more than acceptable at f/5.6. Stopping down to f/8 yields images with good enough resolution to please all but the most demanding photographers.

AF-operation of the lens in photo-mode can be heard as a very low hum from the outside but if you record video with the built-in microphone AF is practically silent. missing some shots and after 2 weeks it broke down for good and wouldn't focus at all i got it repaired As a test, I've taken two photos one after another (within 10 seconds in this example), using the exact same settings, only changing the focal length. I bought this lens 2 days ago and I am in love with it already! Sadly, the price I paid is high and the reason is that I am living in Oslo, Norway (the rest you should understand :) I am amazed by the results this lens produce. The image quality is good all the away I would say. Of course, the image gets a little soft at 300mm but within the acceptable range. The VC (vibration compensation) on this lens is exceptional! when you half press the shutter button, you can actually see the image freeze in the viewfinder. You do hear whizzing sounds from the lens when the VC is in action but come on, that doesnt really matter! Over all, its a must buy lens. APS-C (1.6x FOVCF) body users will not likely notice any vignetting except perhaps in the 300mm corners.

Tamron's feature-rich new 70-300mm telephoto lens aims to go top of the class

Weight: At 577g (1.3 lb.) plus 62g for the lens hood the Tamron 70-300 is almost 100g lighter than the F-Nikkor 70-300 even before accounting for the 133g of the FTZ adapter you’ll need for the F-Nikkor. The Z-Nikkor 100-400 is much heavier at 1355g + 63g lens hood + 82g tripod foot. [+] Flare and ghosting performance is very good with this lens. Strong light sources in the frame cause a tiny amount of ghosting and flare, but much less than many other lenses at this price point. Light sources outside of the frame barely affect the image at all and the supplied circular hood does an excellent job of shading the front element.

things i hate about it are for one the rather stiff zoom ring and when it is at 300mm and MFD of 0.95m On-lens controls are minimal—you just get control rings to set the zoom and focus manually. The manual focus ring sits close to the mount and is finished in plastic, with the raised ridges that are common on camera lenses. The focus ring has a softer, rubberized wrap, with the same ridged texture. It should be noted that our test sample of the Canon 70-300mm ƒ/4-5.6L is actually on par with the Tamron in terms of performance.) I've also sometimes noticed that the issue shows up purely by focusing on something in the distance, before I even take the shot. You keep on complaining about these new, smaller, cheaper, sharper lenses though. Send a few tweets about it. Get really riled up. Make yourself think that you're doing something worthy of your time. I bought this lens about 18 months ago for use on my Nikon D80. Mine is the built in motor version, which focusses a bit slowly, but accurately. Like most consumer telephoto lenses, the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 extends when zoomed, as you can see below. It’s a single-barrel telescoping design, and the length of the lens increases by about 40% as you zoom from 70mm to 300mm. I’m not a fan of telescoping lens barrels, but it’s hard to avoid in lenses like this. 70mm compared to 300mm
