Cleanliness: we wanted to know what the pram is like to clean. We carried out a cleanliness test to see how well the fabric coped when juice was spilled and how easily mud came off. Credit: Micah JamesThe Echo Twin offers a single cup holder high on the outside frame of the stroller. It is a no nonsense simple cup that holds most standard sized water bottles. It is detachable for easy cleaning.

Age range: Newborn to four years | Maximum load: 15kg in each seat | Product weight: 10.5kg | Dimensions: 63 × 66.5 × 25cm (folded); 94.5 × 66.5 × 102.5cm (unfolded) | Travel system-compatible: No | Orientation: Side by side What we love The Echo required at least a 39 degree angle before tipping over. This was one of the steepest angles in our review for this category. The Jeep matched this angle before succumbing to gravity, and the Joovy had the worst tip angle in the bunch at just 29 degrees. Double prams can be very bulky and generally measure up to around 82cm in width. But with standard external doorways measuring around 76 to 96cm, most double buggies will fit through doors. However, there are slimmer options available that will cope with most small spaces. The buggy can be used from birth with a carrycot, however it’s not suitable for twins until six months. You also have to pay extra for a carrycot and rain cover. Narrow Design: Unlike strollers for two that are designed for the children to be side-by-side, this stroller has the children in front of one another, allowing for the design to be narrower and, consequently, easier to maneuver.Previously awarded our best overall double buggy award, the Out n About Nipper Double V4 is a side-by-side three-wheel model for twins or siblings of different ages. Limited Coverage: The umbrellas that come with the stroller are smaller in size, which result in them not protecting your children completely from the sun. If you live in an environment with less sun exposure, then this may not be a concern for you—but if the sun is intense or even strong enough to bother your wee one, then you may want to think of other options to protect them from the sun’s harmful rays.

Credit: Micah JamesThe handles on the Echo are pretty similar to the handles on the Maclaren, but they aren't executed as well. The button end caps on the handles had a tendency to dig into our hands, especially when steering one handed. If the foam cover had extended all the way to the end covering the plastic cap it would have been a nicer feel and more natural in hand. This stroller can accommodate up to 40 pounds per seat. The model is sturdy and secure, ensuring the utmost protection for your young children. The swivel wheels make it easy to maneuver busy sidewalks, and the positioning of the seats being one in front of the other allows for the model to be as narrow as possible, heightening its maneuverability.Side-by-side double buggies tend to be wider than the average pram so may not be suitable for public transport or small car boots. They often have roomy storage baskets though and can be folded easily, but if you have an older child who often wants to walk, the second seat will sit empty. Most are suitable from birth or you may be able to attach an infant carrycot or car seat. Tandem (inline) double buggy To ensure the products were safe, Gemma chatted to Philip LeShirley, Product Safety Advisor at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), who advised what to look for when purchasing a pram to ensure it’s safe to use. Start by thinking about what type of double buggy you need for your family. This will depend on your lifestyle, who will be using the pushchair and what you will be using it for. Generally, there are three different types of double buggy: Side-by-side double buggy

Unfortunately, this makes them quite small – holding up to 2.3kg each – so aren’t adequate enough to fit bulky items. We liked the recline mechanism on this buggy – one of the best we tested – and found adjusting it with one hand easy to accomplish. The recline feels secure and smooth when in lie-flat mode, so it doesn’t disturb a sleeping child, and the harness can be adjusted for children of different ages. The seats: look at how spacious and supportive they are. Seats that can be independently reclined will suit the individual needs of both children. Separate hoods are also handy – look at how much coverage they give and whether they have UPF protection. The Chicco Echo Twin can be used from newborn up to 15kg. The material is snug to the frame, ensuring no gaps for small fingers to get caught, and the seats nicely padded.

If you have twins or a growing family, then a double buggy is a must. We spent months researching and testing the most popular products to reveal the best double buggies to buy. The individual hoods, on the other hand, are fairly basic and offer no UV protection, only just covering the top of a child’s head in low winter sun. While you can remove the rear section of the hood to offer more air on hot days, this isn't a function that parents would get much use out of. We’d prefer a deeper, more effective, hood. Gemma ended up with a list of almost 30 products which she whittled down to 13 to put to the test, covering a range of needs, lifestyles, brands and budgets.
