The sender goes on to describe his experience with the contents of the package, in a classic Sandman yarn of the mortal world brushing against the ominous realm beyond. I had no idea what to expect when I started this series, but by the end of the first book I knew I was entirely hooked. On a similar note, Sandman Mystery Theatre is collected in the first Deluxe Edition, as it's set during issue 1, though it was originally published in the same month as chapter 2 of The Wake (Trade Paperback Volume 10). Morpheus, the Endless and the Dreaming were some of the most memorable, most well fleshed out characters I've had the pleasure of reading in comics thus far.

This set in particular is amazing, including the full 75 issue run plus the original graphic novel “The Dream Hunters” in both its prose and comic adaptation, plus the miniseries Overture. So, it's certainly not for everyone, but if you have patience and devote a lot of time in this series, it'll reward you. When Sandman is on point, which it usually is, it is some amazing storytelling, and some truly memorable and magnificent comics. The Death volume collects two spin-off miniseries; The Cost of Living and The Time of Your Life and repeats other stories from the main series. In The Sandman, the King of Dreams fashioned his inimitable helm from the skull and spine of a nameless god he’d slain.

I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of said style, but it's the classic Vertigo style of the era and it's not like I hate it, it's just not my cup of tea. The Dream Hunters is an illustrated prose novella and has also been adapted into a graphic novel by P. But too often, his overly long, somewhat pretentious, bland and boring stories got in the way of what could have been a flawless, much more concise story if you cut out a good dozen or so issues. I read the other reviews and was fully prepared to have the box look like it was destroyed in travel but it wasn’t damaged that bad. Due to the negative feedback of others, I was expecting the box to be flimsy cardboard, but it is actually quite sturdy.

For my first exposure to the series it definitely piqued my curiosity and I'll have to pick up the full set to have the full experience. As a big cinephile who loves arthouse cinema, I'm a huge fan of slow pacing, but it's very rare that I find a good slow paced comic.

I absolutely love that among all the power, magic and mystery, they are also just a dysfunctional set of siblings; playing pranks, squabbling with each other and coming together to help one another. As for the story, it often jumped around from story to story with time going from present day to middle ages. Only reason I’m keeping it (and for the one star) is because I love Neil Gaiman and his books/comics. Nothing I can say will do justice to how I feel, but I am already wondering how long before I can go right back to the beginning and start it all over again. Weaving together ancient mythology, folklore, and fairy tales with his own distinct narrative vision, Gaiman created an unforgettable tale of the forces that exist beyond life and death. Netflix hasn’t revealed any further details, so now’s the perfect time to revisit the trippy world of The Dreaming while we wait for Netflix to drop that release date.

The Dreaming is a vague, shifting realm of symbol, belief, and imagination where people go to, well … dream! He's able in this series to create multiple different "worlds" and he does so in a way that everyone of these "worlds" feels very unique but also familiar. Other than Sandman himself, there are many other great characters like Death, Delirium, Matthew, Hob Gadling and more. The absolute best fun mixed in with the finest horror, the myriad observations about humanity, and the richest text with a bounty of references to other pop culture and history/mythology/etc.

The whole bottom edge is split and the bottom corner is smashed which crushed and bent the corner of vol 1. Morpheus, the King of Dreams, Lord of the Dreaming, Dream of the Endless, has been captured and is imprisoned for close to a century.
