Study the Illustrations: Sometimes words don’t match actions. Look closely at the spread where the Good Egg describes all the good things he does. Do his words match the pictures? This story is great for those students who tend to be the mother hens in your classroom. I feel like every school year, I have a student who falls into this category! The Good Egg encourages self-care and being able to try new things. One of my favorite things about this book is the illustrations. There are some really funny details in the pictures. And the author entertains you with fun egg puns. In The Good Egg by Jory John, an egg suffering from a breakdown, takes some time out and realises it doesn’t have to be perfect. The book's themes include: The Good Egg is a positive role model for his willingness to help others, his attempt to remedy bad behavior of those around him, and mostly for his ability to step away from his comfort zone to prioritize his own well-being. He's courageous, determined to persevere on journey of self-discovery. He's also eager to forgive and learns to find positive in others and his situation. After reading this story, we will be looking at the character traits that The Good Egg has at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Here is an anchor chart that we will be using to help guide us.

The Good Egg – HarperCollins

Seriously disappointed in the message this book sends to young children - do a lot of superficial, selfish tasks, and you’ll feel better about everyone else’s bad behavior. From the bestselling creators of The Bad Seed, a timely story about not having to be Grade A perfect! Why does the Good Egg get so stressed out when the other eggs misbehave? Do you get bothered by the activity and energy of those around you? What helps you keep calm and not get upset?

The Good Egg is a nicely illustrated book. I bought it from my son’s scholastic catalog without being able to read the inside, and I will be giving this book away. Venn Diagram: Have the children complete a venn diagram with either words or pictures, comparing themselves to the Good Egg.

The Good Egg Book Review | Common Sense Media

The Good Egg book is such a brilliant story! It’s funny, timely, and is brought to life with the amazing illustrations of the oh-so-talented Pete Oswald, who also illustrated The Sad Little Fact. Please reserve a table MON- FRI below. We always keep tables for walk-ins, if you can’t find a table to reserve please do come and see us at the restaurant or get in touch. Bookings close 2 hours before reservation time. The message of putting yourself before others is not what I want to teach my kids. The extreme bad behavior of the other eggs is unrealistic, and the author has the Good Egg deal with that behavior by going on a solo journey of “self care,” including going to a spa and “breathing in and out.” That type of “self care” doesn’t work in real life, so why teach it to children, furthering the selfish “world-revolves-around-me” mentality of youth today. You could also use The Good Egg to make a connection to tattling. Even though the Good Egg never tattle-tails, he IS overly concerned with everyone else’s behavior; just like the little kiddos who are always coming in after recess and lunch break with tattles about everyone and thing under the sun. Fox visit other first animals to ask their advice. They suggest activities that work for them, but they won`t necessarily work for Fox. Dynamic duo Jory John and Pete Oswald hatch a funny and charming story that reminds us of the importance of balance, self-care, and accepting those we love (even if they are sometimes a bit rotten).

Kids will love the hilarious antics of the bad eggs, while teachers, parents, and some children will likely recognize themselves in the good egg. Doesn’t worrying about others, trying to make everything perfect, and neglecting to look after yourself sound awfully familiar? Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. A veeeeeeerrryyyyy good egg spends its time helping others and trying to be perfect. It carries out good deeds… whether this is helpful or even needed is another matter!I think every classroom needs this book. It touches on some important issues in a fun, lighthearted way.

When a child is holding the egg they can say, “I’m a good egg when ….” I love that the Good Egg is self-reflective and takes it upon himself to make some healthy choices. It’s good to present these options to kids and encourage them to find their own calming practices.Families can talk about how the main character feels like an outsider in The Good Egg.
