Metaxa 7 Stars takes it up a notch with a sweeter honeyed note, and the 12 Stars offer a light hint of citrus. Still, the Grande Fine infuses all the Stars in a stunning decanter that tastes incredible and makes a gorgeous gift. It is a unique blend of fine wine distillates, brandy, and Muscat wines, aged in oak casks for at least five years. Metaxa is a smooth, mellow drink that can be enjoyed on its own or mixed with other beverages. Taste: Stone-fruits like apricots, pears, peaches, all topped with honey. Plus a little bite to remind you it was aged

Metaxa 12 Star: Metaxa 12 Star is the most premium product in the Metaxa lineup. It is made from the same blend of fine wine distillates, brandy, and muscat wines as the other two expressions, but it is aged in oak casks for at least twelve years. Metaxa 12 Star has a complex flavor profile with leather, tobacco, and spice notes. The manufactures don’t give up their secrets easily. What we know for certain is that no chemicals are used and only natural ingredients are added, with extracts and tinctures potentially used to potentiate the flavor of specific herbs. I was drinking Metaxa years before I started writing about drink, and never thought I’d find myself reviewing it. So I have a predisposition to like the drink, but I can also now appreciate it more because I can put it into context, with cognacs and brandies and whiskies. To me it tastes like a very fine brandy, but a little more floral. It’s safe to say that if you’ve never tried Metaxa, this new 12-Star will be the perfect introduction. It really is in a class of its own. More InformationSome people will call Metaxa a brandy, because of the mixture of distilled wines and other additives that create the blend. This spirit uses only wines and ingredients from the Aegean Sea area, making it a truly Greek brandy.

Taste notes The company's founder, Spyros Metaxa, was born in 1848 into a family of Greek silk merchants. Exposed during his travels to spirits and wines from around the world, he created Metaxa in 1888, when he owned a tavern. [7] The " Salamina Warrior", the Metaxa emblem, is inspired by an ancient medallion that Spyros Metaxa found when building his distillery in Piraeus in 1888. [7] In 1968, the distillery and the Metaxa cellars were relocated to new facilities in Athens's northern suburb of Kifissia. [4] Production [ edit ]
