An oily cheese is an obvious match, but we’re also partial to sipping this slightly chilled, alongside a mince pie.Other dry Portuguese wines include the tart, slightly effervescent Vinho Verde white wine, made in the north, and the bright, elegant reds and whites of the Dão as well as the bold, and fruit-driven reds and whites of the southern, Alentejo. Please do not attempt to enter this web site if you are not above the legal age of drinking alcohol in your country of residence. The palate is super-smooth on the entry with plush, saturated tannins, quite spicy and peppery with an assertive, structured finish that is quintessentially Dow's. Dows Fine Ruby Port is the youngest of the Dow’s wood-aged Ports, having been aged approximately 3 years in oak cask. The Port is blended with all the care of a premium quality Port with a fine balance and flavour, worthy of the Dow’s name.

Fresh, fleshy grape, dark cherry and fig flavors melded with underpinnings of licorice, chocolate and warming spirit. Edward da Silva was to be the Benevolent’s chairman and then, from 1892, its president for many years. For sherry too, liquids range all the way from light and refreshing finos, through to the delicious, intensely sweet stickiness of a Pedro Ximénez (PX). Port is a sweet, fortified wine with numerous styles: Ruby, Tawny, Vintage, Late Bottled Vintage (LBV), White, Colheita, and a few unusual others. The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine. With their warming fruitiness and satisfying thickness, fortified wines – and especially port – are an obvious choice for festive celebrations, be they high tempo, or low key.

The current generation’s great grandfather, Andrew James Symington, took ownership of the Quinta in 1912 when he became a shareholder in Dow's, which had originally acquired the property in 1890. Give it a little time to open-up in the glass and it will reward you with wood, berries, a little stone fruit including apricot, and a beautiful long finish with a hint of almond. This 2016 Vintage Port Wine from Dow's is the first wine where the mineral characters really shout to be heard. Its wooden boxed packaging also makes it a great gift, and depending on your budget, there’s also a 10 and a 30-year-old in the range too.If you require more information or in-depth condition report please do not hesitate in contacting us and we will assist you in any way we can. It is rare to see such tremendous depth and intensity in colour as this wine displays The freshness of the floral aromas is very attractive with a dominance of rockrose, a flower that grows wild around the hills of Senhora da Ribeira. This is a port from specially selected lotes that are blended together to make a ruby port that has tones and flavours more redolent of Christmas than other Dow ruby ports, such as Icon.

It is more compact, a bit more standoffish compared to some of the other single quinta 2018s that I tasted. Aged for six years, and made with liquid selected from three casks in which the layer of flor yeast is still alive, you’ll still get plenty of character. While Port (named after its city of Oporto on the Atlantic Coast at the end of the Douro Valley), made Portugal famous, Portugal is also an excellent source of dry red and white Portuguese wines of various styles. Once you have bid you are stating you understand and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

If you want to take your time, bed down deep into an arm chair, and snuggle up away from the cold, then the Ramos Pinto RP20 20 year old tawny port is truly worth taking your time over. Senhora da Ribeira’s wines are some of the finest in the Douro and they complement those from Bomfim in the composition of Dow’s classic Vintage Ports. James Suckling of Wine Spectator tasted a Dow’s port over a hundred years after its bottling, an 1896, and described it as: “…an amazing ruby colour with a garnet edge, it smelled of raisins, black pepper and berries. This 2015 Vintage Port Wine from Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, a vineyard to which The Symington family has a strong attachment to.
