A: Knife maker Emerson patented the Wave as a simple, mechanical advantage-based opening system for folders. The Wave constitutes a leverage point for opening any folding knife that's both ergonomic and easy to locate by feel. Look for a thing that looks like a wave near the base of the blade at the spine; that's the Emerson Wave. Q: Who should consider purchasing a karambit knife? The female karambit is a small version, the size of a palm tree and the tip protrudes very little from the fist that holds it and is almost invisible. If you’re holding your karambit in a proper reverse grip, the blade should be pointing downwards with the blade edge facing out. Your hand should be tightly gripping the handle with your thumb pressed against the butt of the handle and your index finger through the ring (if your karambit has one).

Do keep in mind that the double edge of this blade may or may not be illegal for carry in your region. The tiger has always been associated with Orang Minang because of the mountains that were home to the Sumatran tigers. But few people know that the karambit knife, when used in pairs, one in each hand, also forms the shape of the tanduk kerbau (buffalo horns) which is the lambang (symbol) of the people of Minangkabau and part of their coat of arms. Further entrenching the karambit into the culture of Minangkabau and its Silek systems. You should be holding your karambit knife tightly with the blade facing downwards and your thumb up against the knife’s spine (which is facing upwards) to hold it steady. The Karambit knife is a deadly weapon, a part of the tradition of Pencak Silat, and a part of the culture of the Nusantara (Malaysia and Indonesia). We love to see how the Karambit knife has evolved and received modern upgrades while still retaining the traditional look and feel of the weapon. I am also hard at work trying to get my naginata blade done soon. It's coming along very well, hopefully I'll have the instructable out for it before January ends. Let me know what else you'd like to see me do, and don't forget to vote!

A: Tactical. When else would you want a blade with a cutting surface that curves away from whatever you're cutting? The karambit's barbed blade induces a ripping cut, and the curved shape utilizes body movement physics to increase striking power. Q: What is an Emerson wave feature? When Smith & Wesson’s steel smiths aren’t busy making guns, they occupy themselves by forging the things you shouldn’t bring to a gun fight. The brand’s knives have earned a reputation for serviceability, and they rely on their branding and modest pricing for popularity. Cut three 1/4" pins from a preferably nonferrous metal of your choice (I used brass). They should be long enough to go through both scales and the blade and a have a little extra length on top of that. Push the pins through the blade and one of the scales. Trace the outline of the blade onto the scale and cut along that line with a cutout saw. Then use a belt sander and sand right up to the line. Then push the pins through both scales (without the blade in between them) and sand the other scale so it is symmetrical to the first. Put all the pins and scales on the blade to test its fit. If it is good, you're ready to glue. So, if you’re in the market for a new style of self-defense knife, I highly recommend giving the karambit a try!No-Slip Grip: First and foremost, a karambit knife is a weapon. That means a slippery handle is a no-no. Most karambits get textured handles at the bare minimum; some, like Schrade's, even have grips that resist moisture. If you perform the extended karambit knife grip correctly, the knife should be extended forward with its blade pointing in front of you. Your thumb, middle, and index finger should be used to steady the knife and ensure it stays in its correct position. Once it was discovered that the karambit made a formidable weapon, this curved blade soon began to be carried into battle as well.
