Good Morning, Monster: A Therapist Shares Five Heroic Stories Good Morning, Monster: A Therapist Shares Five Heroic Stories

The immense suffering and horrific abuse these men and women have endured is beyond belief of the human mind to comprehend. She also quotes works and theories from other psychologists, some known and others completely unknown to me. This feels like the authors memoir as much as it’s a professional look at the process between therapist The authors have created a sort of anti-Book of Virtues in this encyclopedic compendium of the ways and means of power. Since reading Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed last year, I've been so eager to find something similar. I fell prey to the marketing for Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life, and, for some twisted reason, I actually finished that awful book despite it being one of the most cringey reading experiences I've ever had the displeasure of going through. Not only did it not quench my thirst for another Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, it nearly put me off of the idea of books centering around therapists for good. Her next memoir AFTER THE FALLS covers her teenage and college years where she got involved in civil rights and was investigated by the FBI. As anyone who has sat through a Zoom therapy session knows, there's really no substitute for the real thing. But, the book world is giving it a shot... Good Morning, Monster by Catherine Gildiner is a psychologist's retelling of five of her most memorable (and harrowing) cases." — Entertainment Weekly These stories show how the process of therapy can heal even the deepest wound and most traumatic of experiences." — Lee Woodruff An incredibly wealthy, powerful businessman reaches out to Cathy for marriage counseling - a service she doesn’t provide. When she agrees to treat him for individual therapy instead, he has far more in store than she expects.

I loved Gildiner’s three memoirs and was excited to see she had another book coming out. Because I worked as a counselor for several years, reading a Gildiner memoir about her years as a therapist seemed right up my alley. Unfortunately, not only was I disappointed, I actually found a large swath of the book distasteful.A psychologist and Nobel Prize winner summarizes and synthesizes the recent decades of research on intuition and systematic thinking. Good Morning, Monster is an intriguing book that explores in detail the experience of a clinical psychologist and 5 of her most memorable patients. I respected how she recounts her own failings as a psychologist, how she missed certain signs in some of her patients that led to a regression in their therapy and forced her to take into account her mistakes and how she could do herself and her patient better. Good Morning, Monster - Macmillan

When Gildiner first agreed to see Danny – a Cree man with an intensely traumatic history with white people – she realized she was very much in need of learning. Gildiner herself was a white woman with little knowledge of Indigenous cultures in Canada. She knew she had a lot to learn if she were to help Danny.Heart-wrenching stories... [that] inspire awe for the ways people who suffered horrific abuse were able to find a measure of recovery." — Publisher's Weekly But lo and behold, there was ANOTHER book about a therapist being released around the same time as Group, it's just that the Whiskey in a Teacup lady didn't choose it for her book club and the publisher didn't rain copies down on Bookstagrammers so it didn't get half the hype as Group did. Friends, this one is worlds better than Group.

Good Morning, Monster: Five Heroic Journeys to Recovery

I highly recommend Good Morning, Monster to anyone who loved Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, or who like me was looking for something similar but someone else. The patients Dr. G discusses in her amazing book are heroes; psychologically, emotionally and mentally. PDF / EPUB File Name: Good_Morning_Monster_-_Catherine_Gildiner.pdf, Good_Morning_Monster_-_Catherine_Gildiner.epub Gildiner does a great job explaining psychological concepts in a way that lay folks will understand. Most readers will enjoy her stories. I’m probably more critical than the average reader. I liked that the book contained five separate stories that I could focus on one at a time. All were very different. It’s hard to imagine people go through such unimaginable traumas and manage to go on. It made me very thankful for my own life.
