In 1/18th scale this subject really lends itself to having lots of extras added as well as refining many of the model parts. Might be worth remembering that in those day the Regiments was not universally popular with the Staff so supply of kit and weapons was problematic.

Once you have purchased a reward, you must use that reward coupon in a single purchase; it will not carry a remaining balance. I'll be adding pigments to the jeep and figures after I've painted the dio when I know exactly what colour the surface is going to turn out to be. One slight annoyance is that I have a couple of German-style jerry cans that I wanted to use, but they are slightly larger than the allied ones, and won't quite fit into the storage rack that I've built. To me it appears as though they used an existing M1919 30 cal receiver from another toy and added a M2 50 cal barrel(? So in the process of trying to create the other half of the transfer case I ended up recreating the entire case pretty much. The spare wheels on the back of the jeep are resin and do not come with accurate mounting instructions so they were attached to where I thought they went. Unfortunately, I forgot to add "Paint the rear lights and reflectors BEFORE attaching the spare wheels". For anyone weathering desert kit be careful not to add the usual rusting step as metal does not rust as it does in your normal european climate.

I wanted to be subtle with my highlights to make the jeeps look as realistic as possible (after painting fantasy figures for many years this can be difficult), too much highlighting and they look unrealistic, too little and they look like toys. I've never worked out why this has been omitted from all Tamiya's jerry cans - at least in their early production kits.

Here they are showing the three part lower hinge attached to the hood (it was easier than trying add them to the fender as then they would have to be functional).

I hope the figures are a good match for the build, considering the parts came from three different manufacturers and figures when done. Work and other commitments kept me away from the bench for far too long, but I managed to grab a few hours here and there and thought I'd get the figures done, and work on detailing some of the boxes, cans and other bumflufferies. To change that I first used very thin sheet plastic to cover the hole in the die-cast directly behind where the base should be. Also if one was used in europe, got a case of tin worm, got repainted and shipped to Africa then you would get corrosion wouldn’t you?I also purchased and received decals for WW2 British uniforms, received the items I purchased from Marauder, (German stick grenades, bags, pouches, etc. NOTE: While it is more complex and shows reinforcement legs at the base, mine will be an earlier model without the extra legs (hence the reinforced base). The needle for the sun compass is a very thin piece of stretched sprue, and has been given an initial coat of Natural Steel. During that short time I did manage to knock off the left front light protection bar and the radiator expansion tank , they are fixed now.

Before moving on to another complicated assembly I used my home made punch set to make some headlight covers which will be painted in a close but not exact color for the jeep. Another item I noticed right away was the size of the M2 50cal receiver on the toy (too small) check it out again along with the front tarp in the original photo. I am thinking of adding it to a mini diorama, similar to the one I made for the kubelwagen, but with a desert theme. The idea will be a "random" meeting out in the desert between the SAS and a couple of non-specifed guerilla types. I had to sand the figure's backsides flat and remove a sizable chunk of their feet to get them to fit into the vehicle properly, but considering they've spent the best part of a month sitting on a cocktail stick, I don't think they mind too much! Navy Blue - Worn by the 9/12th Lancers, Army Legal Service, Corp of Army Music, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Royal Engineers, Light Dragoons, Queens Own Yeomanry, Royal Army Veterinary Corps, Royal Corps of Signals, Royal Dragoon Guards, Royal Logistic Corps, Royal Artillery, Queens Dragoon Guards, The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry, Military Provost Staff, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, C (City of London Fusiliers) Company, the Army Physical Training Corps, Royal Army Medical Corps, Royal Army Dental Corps (RADC), The Blues and Royals and The Life Guards. The twin Vickers MG's did not have as much opportunity to embellish them as they are rather simple in design, lumps and bumps. In the photos it looks pretty good to me, just in the flesh it looks like grey paint, rather than the bare metal I was hoping for.
