Joined by a distractingly handsome mercenary and a young scholar with extensive knowledge of the world’s known magics, Ziva and her sister set out on a quest to keep the sword safe until they can find a worthy wielder or a way to destroy it entirely. Why do people call out a greeting when something highly suspicious happens? Do they expect us monsters to announce ourselves? The Plague has left a population divided between Elites and Ordinaries—those who have powers and those who don’t; now, an Ordinary teen fights for her life. It's as easy and fast to read as the original duology but I'd would've liked more of the romance aspect to develop. I also would've liked if the artifacts would've been a bit more explored. That part seemed a bit rushed. I also wouldn't have said no to more Alosa and Riden but Sorinda was a great main character so I can live without it. Sadly, I really dislike the cover.

I absolutely loved that we got a new perspective in this book. I loved reading Alosa’s story in the first two books, but it was really nice to see Solinda’s story in this one. She is in the first two books, but in those I found her to be a bit mysterious and I was curious about her. She is both damaged and strong in a complex, but intriguing way. Sorinda Veshtas is an assassin pirate with a whole trove of knives that she keeps sharpened, shining and at one arm's reach at all times. Kearan is the "bulky", once-drunkard who is an incredibly loyal and capable crewmate. Together on the Vengeance, sent by the pirate queen after the missing Wanderer, this is so much more than just their romance. Sorinda finds herself captaining a ship and on an important mission for the pirate queen. She’s under no illusion, she’s an assassin that likes to hide in the dark and much prefers to go unnoticed, but given her new task, she’s faced with rising to the occasion. And also, Kieran is a part of her crew and trapped on a ship with him is taking all of her self restraint - not to run a rapier through him. It certainly makes for great reading. I loved their interactions with one another and I couldn’t stop reading (and also, a feature from our favourite littlest pirate Roslyn had me all kinds of happy!). Six down!” someone from below shouts. “Spread out and search the mansion, and you there, go rouse the captain.” I absolutely loved the first two books in this series, so I was really excited to read the third installment. Vengeance of the Pirate Queen did not let down. There is something about the way these books are making that make me forget I am reading.

There’s some good swoon and passion too.

Vordan’s been busy since he escaped. He commissioned a ship under a false name, hired himself a new crew, and slowly began to grow his prestige, starting on the island of Butana. I have no doubt he hoped to raise enough forces to eventually usurp Alosa’s throne. This next chapter of pirating adventure turns it’s focus on Sorinda, deadly assassin and Pirate Queen Alosa’s newest captain, as she sails away on a mission to search for and rescue members of Alosa’s crew. This mission takes Sorinda far away from her comfort zone, mentally and physically. Charged with protecting her crew and transporting them far from balmy, tropical shores to frozen seas, icebergs, sea monsters, and ice islands. Kearan made her face all of her shortcomings - or what she thought of as shortcomings and I loved both of them together. I also loved Kearan and Enwen's friendship but I'd also would have liked to see more of it.

Her crew and herself must navigate through treacherous waters, and they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, who summons an army of undead soldiers from the depth. He’ll do anything to claim what he belies is his and Sorinda must do everything in her power to survive, With the infuriating Kearan by her side, she manages to keep her head, and her life, while trying to save the world. Will she and her crew manage to save the world or will she face a fate worse than death: becoming an undead queen controlled by the King of the Undersea himself? I’ll guess you’ll have to read the book to find out but it’ll be worth the read, promise. I extend my arm until it is only inches from Vordan’s left ankle. My fingers tiptoe ever closer, until my pointer finger is directly behind his heel. It would be so easy to slice his Achilles tendon. He’d never walk again. Instead, I draw circles against the wood slats on the floor, allowing Vordan to think the last thoughts he will ever have. Eventually, he sighs, pulls his legs onto the bed, and fidgets with the covers. He learned the first time that if he stayed in one place, Alosa was sure to find him, so he’d take up residence in some fancy estate, stay there a month at most, frequenting the big cities and rallying supporters. Then he’d move to a new city on a new island within the Seventeen Isles and do it all over again.

I absolutely adore this series, and whether you’ve read or haven’t read the first two books in the Pirate Queen series, you can dive straight into Sorinda’s story. Be warned there are spoilers for the first two books but, if you can’t wait dive in, although I recommend reading them first. He should have known better. He should have kept running after he managed to free himself during the scuffle between the land king and former pirate king. Might have had a nice, long life that way. Eighteen-year-old Sorinda is an assassin working for the pirate queen Alosa, extremely skilled and efficient in her assignments. Serious, meticulous and gruff, she is a solitary, taciturn and reserved girl who thrives in the shadows and hates being the center of attention. Sorinda struggles to interact with people, to form relationships, accustomed to keeping everything and everyone at a distance. Except for a few trusted people, for whom she would be willing to do anything. Scarred by a difficult and painful past, behind the grumpy attitude and under the biting irony hides a sensitive soul, full of torment and insecurities. She is a complex and multifaceted character with a wonderful characterization and a beautiful path of growth! She had already intrigued me in "Daughter of the Pirate King", but here, with her pov, she won me over! Hello?” the remaining man calls out, likely having seen his crewman pulled out from his line of sight before the doors closed.One of the reasons I never got into Throne of Glass is because - even at age 11/12 - I felt very strongly that any character who was billed to me as a cutthroat assassin should, at some point, actually be a cutthroat assassin. This particular book opens with 18-year-old Sorinda Veshtas murdering an entire house of people, so we can safely say she's got cutthroat assassination in spades. I also loved the crew. They were really a family. Little Roslyn stole the show for me. I loved any scene she was in.
