Description

While I’ve used it all year round, this room thermometer was particularly helpful and reassuring during last year’s summer heatwave when I lived in a south-facing, one-bed flat with a then two-month-old baby who I needed to keep cool at all times.

We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review... How did this product make your life easier? If you want a more budget-friendly option, this fun and bright thermometer is a good no-frills buy. Disclosure: We were sent the featured products for the purpose of this post however all opinions are my own. One thing to note is that the Groegg2 responds to body heat when held, so it needs to be placed on a flat surface to display the correct temperature. The correct temperature also takes around one minute to be displayed if I hold the unit and then put it down. You can buy more sophisticated (and expensive) models that have other functions such as a nightlight or colour-change feature so you can see whether the room is the right temperature – even with the lights out.

Tony Kealys is unable to take responsibility for any delivery delays which are outside of their control. As well as the colour-changing feature, the Groegg2 also functions as a kids' nightlight. Its silicone dome emits a soft glow - although this might not be enough light to help you navigate midnight nappy changes - and there are three different light levels to choose from to provide a calming environment for your baby. You can also turn the light off completely if you want to. Key specs The Groegg2 is an update on the original and popular Groegg. It’s larger, brighter and much nicer to look at too. I used it daily during a heatwave last year when my daughter was a newborn as I was worried about my flat being too warm and I found it easy to move around the house wherever she was napping. While I think the LED display might actually be too bright considering it’s on show permanently when the device is plugged in, it’s clear that the brightness is more a safety measure than anything else. Babies can’t yet regulate their own body temperature, so you need to make sure that their room is neither too hot (to reduce the risk of SIDS) nor too cold for them to sleep safely and hopefully soundly. A room thermometer will help monitor the nursery's temperature and give parents peace of mind, and many models can be used to measure bath water too, so you only need to buy one thermometer to serve both purposes. It can be hard to get the right balance though, which is why parents are choosing to invest in a digital room thermometer to give them peace of mind while their baby is asleep.

More expensive products also have extra features such a light, to help with night feeds and nappy changes. Parents can also refer to special charts that will show how much or little bedding a baby needs at certain temperatures. Some products also change colour as a warning if the temperature in the room suddenly gets too warm or cold.

Is the Groegg2 easy to use? A: Yes, the Groegg2 is designed to be user-friendly. It has a simple interface with clear temperature readings and intuitive controls. You can easily adjust the brightness of the night light and toggle between temperature modes. Hard to tell. While it certainly doesn’t disturb my daughter when she’s asleep, there’s no real way of me knowing whether the Groegg2 helps to calm her down.

Many bath thermometers also double up as a bath toy for added value. What temperature should my baby’s room be? While it might not be a product parents think to add to their newborn essentials list, most find a room thermometer to be an invaluable piece of kit to help take the guesswork out of keeping their baby’s nursery at the right temperature. With that in mind, I think the Groegg2 is a great buy. About the author The soft-glow light helps to create a calming sleep environment has 3 different brightness levels so you can adjust the intensity of the light to suit your little one. Rachel: I think the flaw of the product is it’s longevity. If it can double up as a nightlight it would add so much as a feature for as the baby grows but also for a toddler to use. It would a great feature to have the amber light as an option to turn on in nightlight ‘mode’ rather than having it glow blue for example… These colours are replicated across the tog labelling for all Tommee Tippee sleepwear. This makes it easier for parents to decide how to dress their children for bedtime for a comfortable night’s sleep. If a baby gets too warm, there's an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death. Is the Groegg2 portable? A: Yes, the Groegg2 is portable and can be easily moved between rooms. It is compact and lightweight, making it convenient to take with you when traveling or staying overnight at different locations. Is the Groegg good? The Gro-Egg includes a lot of features that give me confidence that my child’s room is at a safe temperature for sleep. It’s also really easy to use because all you have to do is plug it in! I’ve found the Groegg2 to be both accurate and consistent when measuring it against the readings of my home’s Hive thermostat system. While there’s usually a difference of 0.2 degrees between the two readings, the results are close enough for me to feel reassured of the Groegg2's accuracy. It's a simple to use, colour-coded model that lets you clearly see if the temperature is too hot, too cold or just right.
