Antispasmodic effect – Chamomile contains flavonoids and coumarins which relax muscles. Essentially chamomile can reduce muscle spasms in smooth muscle, and is therefore an effective treatment for diarrhoea and has been shown to be effective at treating colic in children. Overall, navel piercing aftercare is no different than any other piercing. However, it is unique because of the significant healing period and its vulnerable position. As long as you keep your piercing clean, take care of yourself, and remain mindful throughout the healing process, then you shouldn’t encounter any issues. Can everyone get their belly button pierced? As you adjust to your new jewelry, you might be tempted to play with it. Although the draw is understandable, you must fight against it; spinning or moving your jewelry can cause trauma to the pierced area. Saline solutions usually come in a bottle for soaking or a spray can. Both sprays and soaks will dehydrate harmful bacteria.Anti-inflammatory effect – Several chemical compounds within chamomile such as bisabolol, chamazulene, apigenin, loteolin have anti-inflammatory properties (this is why its so helpful for soothing piercing problems!) Conversely, you want to make sure that your jewelry isn’t too large. Long barbells in new lip piercings run the risk of being chomped upon, which can break your teeth. Hot saline compresses are arguably the best, but its important not to boil off any water from your 0.9% sterile saline else it’ll be too salty! So take a clean pot with a lid and microwave some Neilmed in this pot and use clean gauze to apply the hot saline to your piercing (we want it hot but obviously not hot enough to burn you!) – the cons of this method is that its easy to contaminate your sterile saline if you aren’t confident with cross contamination, as the pot and microwave aren’t sterile, and also this is the most expensive method of hot compressing your piercings. If you engage in activities that cause your piercing to hurt, you may set yourself up for a piercing that wants to migrate or reject. Be careful with any activities that severely irritate your fresh piercing, like certain yoga poses. In the days immediately after you’ve gotten pierced, you’ll experience some swelling. You need to make sure that your jewelry accommodates this.
