Despite having this compound that boasts high energy return, it felt very bottom heavy. The 8mm drop had me landing and lifting off on my midfoot, but because it was so heavy and stiff I felt like I was dragging. Brooks Bedlam Upper Info Because the fit and feel have been enhanced and it’s much lighter, it’s a much more versatile shoe that it was in the past.

This is where the shoe is truly sensational and provides a wide range of support and fit. Right below your ankle is an elastic fabric that you use to wrap the shoe around the top of your foot. That was not the case with the Brooks Bedlam 3. For a road running shoe the Bedlam has a good amount of toe room, but not too much. So, it very well could have great cushioning and energy return. I just haven't experienced it due to the discomfort. The sole uses Brooks’ a DNA AMP midsole. This is Brooks’ answer to energy returning foam that everyone seems to have these days. As of now, the most I've been able to run in this shoe consecutively is about 3 miles before the pain starts creeping in. Not a great first experience. Comfort & ride Well, that was the diagnosis, and my podiatrist recommended (among many other things) that I ditch my more minimalist footwear in exchange for stability running shoes.

It might be a good shoe to consider for your next half marathon. It could help offset the form breakdown from your fatigued legs over the final miles. Launched in 2010, DNA is a cushioning technology that is also present in most of Brooks’ running shoes. I was really hoping I'd fall in love with the Brooks Bedlam 2, but I'm sad to report it's a crush that never materialized into a full-on healthy relationship. I'm still skeptical and think that it might just be my feet, but I've never experienced anything quite like this. I've run hundreds of miles in Brooks, Altra, Hoka, Nike, Vibram, Vivobarefoot, North Face, and Salomon shoes. The Brooks Bedlam 3 is billed as their springiest shoe yet. Since I am a “show me, don’t tell me” kinda guy, I needed to see for myself. The proof’s in the pudding, right? It uses a polyurethane compound that aims to return what you put on the road. It felt soft on impact but gave a springy return on lift off.

It has a comfortable interior and a sleek and a modern look that could double as a casual shoe with shorts or jeans. WHAT'S NEW? Out in the run, that upper does flex a bit but still remains really snug just like the Levitate 4 so again this will skew to those who enjoy a very snug upper fit. The GuideRails however really start to shine and that firm DNA Amp midsole starts to feel a bit more comfortable which seems counter-intuitive but even our neutral runners enjoyed the feel of the Bedlam underfoot over the Levitate. They are really fast feeling which was also surprising given the weight, but this is where that midsole really shines. For using an ultra stability shoe like the Brooks Bedlam 2, it's important to have context. This footwear is a max stability shoe for runners with moderate to severe pronation. Though the Bedlam’s stability will soon be a remnant of the past (the new Adrenaline GTS 19 debuts an updated GuideRails support system that’s lighter and even more subtle), testers found the support they on their runs. Said a tester, “Very stable and decent support for an overpronator who doesn't need much cushion.” She was referring to the rarely-sexy Hoka collection gathering in my closet, which isn't necessarily hard to beat. But still, I couldn't argue with her. This shoe looks nice! When my foot started to hurt on the initial workout, I hopped off the treadmill and reworked the laces to see if it was just the fit that was wrong: Nope, all good to go. This is definitely going to be one of the best looking stability shoes that you have ever seen. Most of them tend to look a bit more orthopedic in nature, but Brooks did a great job keeping it still fast looking and making it compelling visually. You don’t lose anything aesthetically which is great. It doesn’t come in 5 colors like the levitate, we only get two, but still.
