Description

This book, and the many others like it that are being introduced often without parents’ knowledge or proper consultation, have no place in primary schools, let alone Christian ones. Christian parents who believe we are born male and female are increasingly being silenced or told that they are ‘transphobic’ if they do not want their young children to be exposed to harmful and confusing transgender ideology. The poet has tried to establish a contrast of the shadow with other things around to show the difference in nature of the shadow. For example: There are multiple activities in the Power Point based on the theme of identity. There are time stamps for the video with questions. Depending on the age group, you can keep the discussion surface level or allow the students to lead the discussion further. It can be an entry into LGBTQ+ curriculum, or a simple lesson on self-acceptance despite our differences. Christian parents, Stephen Evans and his wife Joanne, said they “immediately knew something was not right.”Their view, shared by a number of other parents, was that the book would sow confusion and was not appropriate for impressionable primary school children.

This is an important book which explores issues around identify and self-acceptance. It is a text that challenges gender stereotypes and is inclusive in terms of representing the LGBTQ+ community. It can also be read in conjunction with My Shadow is Purple which explores non-binary gender. Links and Themes:Indeed, the author put a video on TikTok in which he explains that his son wanted to dress as Elsa to go to the cinema, and Stuart told him "There is no way you're doing that ... alone." The video then shows a young boy wearing a dress, accompanied by his father also wearing a dress. This video has had over 22 million views at the time of writing.

You can watch My Shadow is Pink being read aloud online here. Any Christian parent would have concerns about this book being read to their four-year-old child. The book is very clearly promoting transgender ideology. In this book, the idea that you can have an identity that does not match with your body is portrayed through the concept of a 'shadow' which everyone has, and which expresses the person's true identity. My Shadow Is Pink is a beautifully written rhyming story that touches on the subjects of gender identity, self acceptance, equality and diversity. Inspired by the author’s own little boy, the main character likes princesses, fairies and things “not for boys.” He soon learns (through the support of his dad) that everyone has a shadow that they sometimes feel they need to hide. This is an important book for a new generation of children (and adults alike) which exemplifies the concepts of unconditional love, respect and positive parenting.

She is also this year set to speak at the ‘ Annual Equity in Education & Society Conference’ on the theme of ‘faith, class and sexuality’ alongside Andrew Moffatt. Moffatt is the head teacher who in 2019 sparked furious parental protestsfromMuslim parents in Birmingham after he introduced the teaching of LGBT ‘No Outsiders’ books at Parkfield Primary school. CofE guidance used against parents Parents who believe we are born male and female and who do not want their children exposed to harmful ideology are losing their voice and their rights. The CofE’s own guidance being used against us to justify confusing and harmful teaching on gender identity is a slap on the face.
