Description

However I very obediently followed the wishes of the people at Harper Collins who so kindly sent me an early proof copy back in October, but now that the March 31 publication date is fast approaching, Operation Department 19 is Go!

Department 19 is a secret vampire slaying organisation with only one objective: to slay all vampires. As well as great back story, Will Hill is also highly skilled at other aspects of the craft of writing. Its pages are fully loaded with knuckle punching adventure, high stakes intrigue, constant mystery, mind blowing action and a light romance that is all perfectly blended and wrapped with glossy paranormal packaging. Some chapters would focus on the past, such as the formation of Department 19, which gave some insight as to the dynamics of the Department. Interweaving the stories of Jamie, Dracula, Frankenstein, and a mysterious man wandering the American desert, this book is closer to the elaborate works of Stephen King than many vampire novels marketed to teens.

The brave men and women of Department 19 have fought Dracula at every turn, but now Zero Hour has passed and the ancient vampire is at full strength. I think these reviewers take themselves a little too seriously, obviously know little about teen fiction and need to carefully remove the self-righteous rods from their proverbials. Sixteen-year-old Jamie Carpenter’s life was violently upended when he was brought into Department 19, a classified government agency of vampire hunters that was formed to deal with a little problem . It didn’t seem to bother me when I was younger and reading about girls in Christopher Pike’s books, but it does now.The Rising is a fast, furious, can’t-turn-away thrill ride that will suck readers in just like a video game. So if you're a gawky boy who gets picked on by bullies, you might enjoy living vicariously through this boy who learns at 16 that he comes from a long line of ass-kicking vampire hunters. Unless stated otherwise all book synopses (in italics at the beginning of each review) are taken from goodreads. These monsters are Homicidal (and yes, I meant that with a capital H): think the sheer single-minded evilness of Kurt Barlow from 'Salem's Lot, the ambition of Deacon Frost from Blade, the sadistic bloodlust of Marlow from 30 Days of Night. You get attacked by a beautiful vampire girl while the second oldest vampire in the world takes your mother hostage and drives you into the arms of the most highly classified department of the British government, where you find out that pretty much everything you thought you knew, about your life and everything else, was a lie.

characters under these pages and it was a lot to keep track of, but once I got more into the story it became easier. Jamie Carpenter now has to train new recruit, while Kate Randall together with Paul Turner forms ISAT (Internal Security Affairs Team) to make sure that such a disaster like Valeri's attack never happens again. The widely anticipated second volume in the ‘Department 19’ series, this novel follows on directly from the action in the first book. Dracula – the first vampire who was thought to have died over 500 years ago – is rising and when zero hour comes he will be able to reign chaos over the world.

I have already stated that another book will have to be pretty darn special to beat Department 19 to the top spot in my list of Books of the Year for 2011 – I am more than happy to be proven wrong as that would mean yet another outstanding book is on the shelves, helping even more young people to develop an enjoyment of reading for pleasure. Nope we get him waking up at the end and saying 'Fuck this shit' which is a reasonable reaction I suppose, just not what I wanted. Jamie is a descendant of one of the founding families, and his father was one of the organization's top members. Clips and magazines are not the same thing - the terms are not interchangeble) This might be overlooked, since Jaimie had probably not handled guns before his 2-day intensive training, but then he aced the simulator test like an elite, highly-trained operator!
