This guide will show you the many methods of growing chillies, as well as the many things you can do with chillies once you’ve grown them! To Start off with I have listed out some of the most frequently asked questions about growing chillies. Previously I would have carried on using Chilli Focus after flowering had begun . I would have simply doubled the dose from five to ten millilitres It is recommended to use GT Chilli Focus at least once a week during active growing seasons like spring and summer. Can GT Chilli Focus be used more than once a week? Once seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves, I will repot them for the first time. I typically pot seedlings into two-inch pots filled with my own potting mix. This mix consists of all-purpose compost, coir soil and perlite. I will also start fertilising the seedlings with half-strength Chilli Focus. The NPK for Chilli Focus is 2.7: 1: 4.4. Seaweed extract contains minerals, vitamins, and enzymes that are natural growth stimulants. . They are nutrients that facilitate cell growth, which leads to stronger, healthier and more disease resistant plants

The value varied from source to source, but seems to be in the region of 0-0-0.5. However, according to what I read, this doesn’t seem that important. Rather, what came through loud and clear was that nutrients should be considered to be the main reason for using seaweed extract. It should not be seen as a primary source of nutrients, but rather as a growth enhancer ( bio stimulant) and tonic for plants.

I believe the flower formation was the result of the higher Potash content of the Vitax 4 fertilizer that I switched to accelerate growth. Vitex 4, not only has a higher nitrogen and phosphorous content than my normal Chilli Focus, but also has a higher potassium level. So, where I would normally only switch to my high potassium fertilizer at this point, these plants already have flowers. They didn’t need the switch over to form flowers and produce Chillies. To further encourage flower formation and fruit set, they will however start getting Champak 4. This is the fertilizer with the potassium levelsA: Yes, you can. We recommend that the compost should contain a significant amount of drainage matter, such as perlite to help keep air around the roots. You can make a simple auto-watering system by placing pots on a platform over a water tray. Feed a thin strip of capillary matting into the pot from the base and trail into the water tray. Q: How often should I water my plants? Tip: Snip off the first green chillies that appear rather than leaving them to turn red. This will encourage more fruit. 2. Growing From An Established Chilli Plant Before you re-pot there shouldn’t be any need to add nutrients - just water as described previously We may use personal information collected from you to provide you with information, updates and our services. A: These steps will help to encourage the production of flowers and set of fruits on chilli plants: Yes, but you should halve the dilution rate to avoid overfeeding the plant. For best results, consider using coco fibre, which is an ideal partner for Focus products due to its purity and exceptional water holding capacity. Still Unsure if This Product is Right for You? Besides my bigger Chili plants (which were potted onfor the final time about a month ago) I also have plants that need to be repotted . These plants are now about eight inches tall and will be potted on the for the final time this year. It will be interesting to see if I have the same rapid growth from these plants when they are introduced to Vitax Q4 for the first time. If it does, it will get my unreserved thumbs up (see note). Note If you look at most tomato nutrient bottles their NPK rating is around 4-4-12 which is vastly differentGrow your own kits come in many different forms and are sold by various companies. I have tested one that I bought from Wilkos. I bought it in November, it was the version more intended as a Christmas gift, rather than just a gardening supply. Yes, but a weak solution of 5ml per litre should be used during the first few weeks of growth. As the plant becomes established and shows active growth, the nutrient strength can be progressively increased. Can GT Chilli Focus be used as a foliar spray? I am not saying this is wrong. However, when I compare the NPK of the fertilizer I switch to at this stage, there really is no comparison. At 10 millilitres per litre, Chilli focus has an NPK of roughly 5.5: 2: 8.8. The fertilizer I use has an NPK of 15 -15 -30. In my opinion, the higher phosphorus and potash content make all the different in encouraging blooming and fruit set Final thoughts Potash (the commonly used term for potassium) also toughens Chilli plants to resist pets and disease. It does this by promoting strong growth. In essence, making the plant stronger so it can fight off these threats to its health.
