PUBG Mobile also runs surprisingly smoothly. Really pretty good. But here you can only set the graphics to “balanced”, which is the lowest, and the graphics look weak. But it’s playable. Asphalt 9 is supported, and the graphics look okay, but you have to lower the settings a bit to make it run smoothly. Otherwise, stutters can be seen every now and then. That doesn’t apply to Alto Odyssey, this game runs fantastic, very smoothly and also looks great.

These cheap full-sized tablets are very much intended to be portable media players, of course, so it’s appropriate that we bring audio into the conversation here. The Redmi Pad SE gives you a strong quad-speaker set-up that supports Dolby Atmos output, and it provides impressively loud, punchy sound for the price. My issue with the Snapdragon 680, at least within this context, is that it struggles to do even the basics smoothly. Whether you’re waking the tablet from sleep, hopping between apps, or simply scrolling through web content, there’s a noticeable lag to everything, with frequent micro-stutters breaking the sense that you’re dealing with a reasonably classy tablet. So, remember this. If you need multitasking and especially the multi-window view, then you have to choose at least the version with 4GB RAM. Design & Built Quality It’s a good job the stamina is so strong, because the Redmi Pad SE only supports up to 10W wired charging. For such a large battery, that’s awful, and pretty much necessitates an overnight charge.

Compared to the Oppo Pad Air, the Redmi Pad SE has the benefit of driving a lower-resolution display. Conversely, it boasts a much faster 90Hz refresh rate which, as hinted at earlier, it can’t quite make the most of. The display is definitely a highlight at the price, as it’s a 90Hz screen. Competitors usually only have 60Hz. So, animations and even some games can look particularly smooth. The simple Redmi Pad also has a 90 Hz screen, bit the original price is 100 Dollars more. The battery life is surprisingly long at 10 hours, so you could easily watch YouTube for a workday and still have two hours left for the end of the day. For this battery test, I always run an HD YouTube video at maximum brightness in a loop. Redmi Pad Review: Final Verdict In my battery test, the Redmi Pad SE achieved a runtime of 8.75 hours. That is a very solid result. For this test, I always run an HD YouTube video at maximum brightness in an endless loop. Redmi Pad SE Review: Final Words The faster refresh rate makes animations look smoother, and some games can take advantage of that as well. You can also select 60Hz in the settings to save some battery, or set a variable frequency. The tablet then decides how fast the screen is updated. For instance, when reading an e-book, you do not need 90 Hz. MIUI 13 not only allows for apps to be run in fullscreen mode, but also in a windowed view that allows multiple apps to be open simultaneously. Additionally, two app windows can be automatically aligned to take up half the screen, each. Using this feature requires the 4-GB version of the tablet (or higher), however, since the 3-GB model does not support split view. The Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE is a nicely built full-sized tablet that might have you raising your eyebrows in surprise when you see the price tag, at least if you weren’t aware of the Oppo Pad Air or the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 before it.

So, is the Redmi Pad a tablet for you? I think it’s great that for 300 dollars we get a 90Hz display that is quite bright and looks nice. The speakers are solid and the battery life is particularly long, which makes it a good entertainment tablet. What’s also really cool is that Xiaomi promises us two major Android updates. So, is the Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE a good tablet? Overall, yes. You’ve seen it. We get a high-quality metal chassis, a pretty display that’s quite bright and supports 90Hz, as well as solid speakers and up-to-date software. I also like that we get a relatively large amount of RAM and internal storage. The front of the tablet looks even more generic, of course, with nothing but a uniform bezel running around an 11-inch display. Those bezels are relatively slim, with the Redmi Pad SE boasting an 84.4% screen-to-body ratio, which pips the Oppo by a single percentage point. And that is exactly what my gaming test confirms. Almost all games run smoothly and often surprisingly so. I was able to play the racing game Asphalt 9 very smoothly, which I think is also due to the comparatively large memory and the 90 Hz display. So, it runs, but the graphics do not look particularly pretty, but rather quite pixelated.I think Xiaomi is actually surprisingly good with updates. The first Redmi Pad has already received major version updates and the Pad 5 and 6 are also kept up to date. Since I got the Redmi Pad SE, it has also received a few minor updates. That is great, because that was not the case for many Android tablets for a long time. Just like with the Oppo Pad Air, you have to suspect that a cleaner approach to software might have helped with the Redmi Pad SE’s performance struggles. It runs on MIUI 14, which is the latest in a long line of famously flabby (if reasonably functional and customisable) Android UIs from Xiaomi. This is exactly what the 3D Mark Wild Life test shows. Here, the Redmi Pad SE is also weaker than the first Redmi Pad and it’s even a bit weaker than the aging Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. So, it cannot score with graphics performance. However, it’s not perfect. Especially the graphics performance could be a good bit better. Therefore, I cannot recommend it as a gaming tablet. It’s also less suitable for working or studying, since there is neither an official keyboard cover nor an active pen.
