It’s post Christmas, and I am in the mood for a party – because it’s nearly New Years eve! For this years New Years eve bake I have gone down the line of one of my favourite drinks in the world (because I am extremely basic) – a passionfruit martini in cupcake form… so here are my passionfruit martini cupcakes!

So taste the gin at intervals, and once you’re happy with the flavour, filter out all the botanicals using a sieve. If there’s some sediment left in the liquid, use some muslin or a coffee filter to strain it again. There’s no rule to how much of your chosen botanical to use , although approximately a third fruit to gin is probably about right for most infusions ( roughly 300g produce for 1 litre of gin). When you think of tropical flavors, what comes to mind? Pineapple, mango, papaya, and passionfruit are all likely candidates. These flavors are the perfect match for a refreshing gin and tonic, especially during the hot summer months. What mixer goes with gin liqueur? This is a question that many people ask, and there is no one definitive answer. However, there are a few mixers that work well with gin liqueur. Finally, you can also mix gin liqueur with soda. This is a great option if you are looking for a light and refreshing drink. Additionally, soda is a great mixer if you are on a budget, as it is a relatively inexpensive drink. To really let your homemade passion fruit gin sing, try it with a neutral tonic and lots of ice. If you don’t like tonic or want to try something new, we particularly love it with pineapple soda, it complements the flavour so well! How to store: If your bottles or jars are well sealed, strained correctly and kept in a cool, dark place, your spirits can keep for up to a year.

What tonic goes with passionfruit gin? This is a question that many people may be wondering about, and the answer is not always so straightforward. Beware of leaving it too long and over-infusing the mixture, though - in the same way that a cup of tea with the teabag left in too long can taste horrible, so too can flavoured gin! For the decoration, I decided to go a little overboard as these are meant to be celebration cupcakes, and used some edible gold glitter spray, a bit of a gold straw for decoration, and I used some small pipettes to add a mini ‘shot’ of prosecco to each cupcake. There are a few things to consider when pairing a tonic with passionfruit gin. The first is the flavor of the gin itself. Passionfruit gin is a unique flavor that can be paired with a variety of tonics. Some tonics that would pair well with passionfruit gin are ginger beer, sparkling water, or lemon-lime soda. For the buttercream frosting I followed a similar idea to my gin & tonic cupcakes, but obviously with vodka! If you wanted to have a Prosecco hit, you can try and add it here using a Prosecco syrup (boiling down Prosecco and sugar to a syrup) – but I just went straight with the vodka.Ultimately, the best tonic to go with passionfruit gin is the one that you enjoy the most. So, experiment with different tonics and find the perfect pairing for you. How do you serve passion fruit gin liqueur? Simple Syrup — This is a liquid water and sugar mixture. You can easily make this yourself or buy it pre-made. Lime Juice — Again, freshly squeezed juice! The lime adds a subtle sour contrast with the sweet mango flavor. The juicy sweetness of fresh mango blends with the refreshing tartness of passionfruit for an uplifting edge. To experience the depth of flavour in all its glory, pour a generous splash over ice. Inhale its heady aroma, then relax, unwind, and savour each mouthful.

Herbs & plants: rosemary, thyme, lavender, mint, elderflowerRemember, the more you use the stronger the flavour. Use around 200-400g of fruit per litre of spirit. For the cupcakes, I went for an easy cupcake recipe. It is just a plain sponge – with butter, caster sugar, self raising flour and eggs. Four ingredients makes something delicious – and it’s so easy! I naturally use a baking spread for the cupcake mix as it creates a beautiful bake – and the eggs, flour and caster sugar are just standard. Herbs and spices like vanilla, thyme, lavender, mint, cardamom or chilli may only need a few hours steeping in the gin, whereas fruits, strongly flavoured vegetables and berries will probably be best left for a week or two, maybe even up to a month. Christmas is just a memory, and the New Year celebrations are already over, but the next event isn’t far away. Valentine’s Day is around the corner and Tesco has the perfect spirit for a romantic evening. Tesco Finest offers Mango and Passionfruit Gin from The Melodist. This pale lemon beverage is presented in a stylish and angular bottle with an attractive music-themed label reflecting the ingredients as well as the tuneful distiller. The gin is made for Tesco by Two Tykes Distillery in the UK. The Melodist Mango and Passion Fruit Gin is a melange of traditional London Dry Gin with hints of exotic mango and passion fruit. Enjoy long or short

📖 Recipe

That’s not completely untrue - there is a type of gin called “compound gin” that you can make in your kitchen with a bottle of vodka and whatever botanicals you feel like adding. But for an even easier “cheat’s” take on flavoured gin, try one of our ‘ginfusions’ below. You can obviously make these child friendly by removing the vodka – a fairly obvious suggestion – but honestly, just leave it out! It’s not needed if you want these cupcakes alcohol free. You do not need to replace the vodka with anything else either! So easy, and still just as delicious. To make your homemade flavoured gin, take a sterilised (dry) jar or bottle and simply add your chosen fruit(s), herbs and/or spices to your gin and leave the mixture to infuse. It’s as easy as that! To turn it into a gin liqueur, simply add sugar.
