Due to the large size of a lot of log stores, you’ll benefit from having a power screwdriver and an extra pair of hands to help out. The best log store will be made from pressure-treated wood, reducing the risk of rot and insect infestations. It should be raised off the ground, with slatted or feather-edge panels to provide adequate ventilation. An overhanging roof is useful to look out for, to protect your firewood from wind and rain.

Assembly doesn’t take too long – around an hour with the help of two people, though you might want to wear gloves as splinters can come off the wood whilst putting it together.Whilst it’s certainly not the smallest wood store featured here, it does strike a good balance between capacity and size, which might make it a good choice for households without much space who burn quite a lot of wood. When considering the position, account for a small gap between your log store and the fence or wall, which should help to combat any dampness that could threaten to creep in during wetter months. Your log store is also best raised off the ground for the same reason, so including some legs or some sort of platform for your construction is recommended.

This Normanton Hand Made Wooden Log Store fits around 450 standard logs, yet is still fairly compact and can be placed in easy-reach of the house.

Pillar Log Store

You might normally buy/cut wood and then just leave it out in the garden, elevated on pallets or simply resting on the floor. This can work ok for a bit, but if there’s any bad weather, or just general humidity (we do live in the UK after all!), these logs will get damp.

To avoid this problem with your wood store, and make sure you’re getting something that will last, look for a unit constructed from pressure-treated wood. For a wood store with a capacity of 1.15 m³ (that’s over 300 standard-size logs), the Charles Bentley Heavy Duty Log Store doesn’t take up as much space as you might expect. With a width of 177 cm, and a height of 152 cm, it’s one of the most practical log stores for small/medium spaces; its footprint is comparatively small given how much wood it can hold. Ideally you want to find the balance between the wood store being as open as possible, but protected from the elements!

While oak requires lengthy seasoning (at least a year), it does produce consistent heat for longer durations than other woods. Pine A log store with a 1 m³ capacity can hold approximately 300 standard logs. Therefore, a store with 0.5 m³ of space will hold roughly 150 standard logs, and so on. Having a log store also means you can buy more wood in advance, and season any green wood that you have cut. We answer all of these FAQs and more below. Of course, if there is anything else you’d like to know about outdoor log storage or our log stores, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help. Why use a log store for your firewood?

It sounds counter-intuitive to leave them out in the open exposed to rain and snow to dry them out. The reason though is to dry off sap. Timber is a natural material that easily manages water and if left covered, the firewood will not dry properly. Can they be used as an attractive garden feature?Offering ample space for storing equipment, garden toys, accessories, and of course logs, our log storages sheds sized 6' x 4' and upwards all come with a twenty five year guarantee included in the price! Fire pits with integrated log store As well as providing convenient access to firewood and a place to dry out logs, wooden logs stores come in a variety of shapes and styles, and we absolutely believe that they make an attractive garden feature. There’s nothing quite like a roaring fire, whether inside your fireplace on cosy winter evenings or outdoors surrounded by friends and family on summer nights. But to build a successful fire, you’ll need plenty of dry logs on hand, which means you’ll need somewhere to store them. This is where a simple log storage shelter can come in handy. You’ll find log stores with a number of beneficial features, from raised log stores for added moisture protection, to pressure-treated wood from sustainable sources. Manufactured from big brands such as Shire, Garden Village, Mercia you can depend on high quality. This wood has an attractive silvery finish, and doesn’t discolour as much as pine wood. It’s also been pressure treated, so doesn’t need any further treatment against rot for the first few years.
