Spiritual needs are being met elsewhere. ‘’500 million people getting from TV (the moon landing) what they used to get from church, wonder, awe…” He would go on to have lunch with the Queen, the Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret at the Royal Lodge following the service. "No mention was made of St. George's Chapel at Windsor, and we never had an inkling of what the real purpose of the sermon and the lunch was all about," Robin wrote in his 1986 autobiography.

It’s July of 1969, Queen Elizabeth ( Olivia Colman) attends church at the chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle, with her family and husband, Prince Philip ( Tobias Menzies), dutifully in tow. Like a petulant teenager, on the walk to the chapel, Philp asks Elizabeth, ‘’Why do you do this? Week after week, like lemmings? What does it do for you, honestly?’’ She makes some off the cuff remark about keeping her focus on what really matters. The Crown: Season 3". Rotten Tomatoes. She met Yuri Gagarin, the first man to go into space, in July 1961, and Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, in 1964. She also met an astronaut from Apollo 8 prior to the Apollo 11 astronauts’ visit. When Apollo 12 returned to the moon in November 1969, she woke up early to watch TV coverage of the event. This is another dynamic of what undermines faith in our secular age . Church feels superfluous. But again, this quality turns out to be an asset. For insofar as the church refuses to justify itself in terms of immediate pragmatism or usefulness—but insists on worshiping the eternal God, preaching a timeless gospel, fostering long obedience, and steadfastly loving neighbors—it persists as an outpost of lasting relevance in a world of ever-shifting concerns. There comes a time in life when one starts to evaluate what one’s accomplished, because of the positions I’ve ended up in, who I’ve become (who I married!) I haven’t been able to become the adventurer I wanted to…I want to know what your thoughts were…out there…’’ From 24 June 2021 there will be a small exhibition of archival material and historic photographs in the south quire aisle to celebrate Prince Philp’s service to society, his support of St George’s Chapel and his role in the foundation and development of St George’s House consultation centre. The Duke of Edinburgh was installed as a Knight of the Garter in St George’s Chapel in 1948 and marked many public and private occasions here. In 1961 His Royal Highness commissioned some music from Benjamin Britten for the choir of St George’s Chapel; the resulting Jubilate in C has been sung in the Chapel on many occasions since that time; it was included in his funeral service on 17 April 2021. a b c d Chaney, Jen (4 November 2019). Episode 6, “Twyysog Cmyru”: Did Prince Charles hide pro-Welsh sentiments in his investiture speech as Prince of Wales?

After he was caught, Blunt exchanged information and names for immunity from prosecution. Two of the people he named as spies died by suicide after being questioned, which led MI6 to end the investigation instead of risking further attention to the case. Blunt continued to work in the palace until 1972 and was publicly exposed as a spy in 1979. The episode opens by juxtaposing two viewing experiences of Philip (Tobias Menzies). As he watches a press conference on television featuring the Apollo 11 astronauts (Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins), the Duke of Edinburgh is utterly transfixed. “Extraordinary,” he says with gleaming eyes as he later watches Apollo 11 lift off at Cape Canaveral. “What men. What courage.” As he sits in front of the TV, the energy in his eyes says it all. Drip, doubt, disaffection, unease, discomfort – a jealous fascination with the achievements of the astronauts. My mother died recently. She saw something was amiss…a wonderful word, ‘amiss’, something is missing…faith. She saw it. ‘How’s your faith?’ she asked me. I’m here to admit to you that I’ve lost it. And without it, what is there? Loneliness, emptiness, anticlimax…going all the way to the moon to find nothing but haunting desolation. That is what faithlessness is, as opposed to finding wonder and exhilaration. The solution to our problems is not in science but bravery. The chapel was built between a buttress of the North QuireAisle and the Rutland Chantry, the first significant addition to St George's Chapel since it was built between 1475 and 1528. Originally Prince Philip was not so keen on this chapel being built, but the Dean was one who took the view that it was fitting so long as it was the very best example of contemporary architecture possible. Paul Hilton as Michael Straight, American magazine publisher, novelist, patron of the arts, and a confessed spy for the KGB

Sidenote: He says something slightly mysterious while talking about his crisis. “Just like other people hitting that crisis, you resort to all the usual things to try to make yourself feel better. Some of which I can admit in this room and others which I probably shouldn’t.” This seems to imply that he may have committed some big sin he can’t talk about with the priests. Just like in the second season, where Philip never actually denies that he’s cheated, it’s left really ambiguous as to whether Philip has had affairs or not. This exchange starts off a theme of Philip finding people or events in his life boring throughout the entire episode.Philip is obviously delighted when the Queen tells him that the astronauts are going to come visit the royal family. The Queen says, “I thought that would cheer you up.” “Do I need cheering up?” “A little.” St George's House hosts around 60 events for leaders from across society each year. It is a haunting thought that the two Queens I met that day will soon be reunited in death.
