We have options that you may also be interested in the ‘Rodent Mesh’ section of our store. In addition, we offer an enormous range of insect screening options. As a rule of thumb, rats are capable of chewing through anything that is not harder than their teeth. Keep in mind that light-gauge mesh is not entirely resistant to more aggressive rat breeds. However, we also offer mesh that is both galvanized and welded, which is useful in excluding large rats and other intrusive animals. For the most comprehensive rodent-control, use a 16-gauge to 19-gauge galvanized wire screen material that’s welded at each joint. The stainless steel rodent mesh option has a 1mm hole and a 0.4mm wire. The wire per inch content is high in relation to the opening, so the mesh forms a very tough grid when used over small spaces especially. Furthermore the mesh has a good open area % so the flow of air through vents will not be impacted.

Rats are known to be skilled climbers, and they may be able to climb wire mesh under certain circumstances. However, the ability of rats to climb wire mesh will depend on several factors, including the size of the mesh, the strength of the wire, and the texture and shape of the surface the mesh is attached to. Cost: As mentioned above, galvanised steel is typically less expensive than stainless steel. This can make it a more cost-effective option for those who need to cover a large area with rat mesh. Adhesive: Adhesive can be used to attach rat mesh to smooth surfaces such as metal or plastic. Use a high-strength adhesive that is specifically formulated for use with metal and that can withstand exposure to the elements. We recommend Gorilla Glue as the best adhesive to work with our mesh materials. Cut the mesh to size: Measure the dimensions of the rat cage and cut the mesh to the appropriate size, leaving a little extra on each side to allow for overlap.

Rat Proof Wire Mesh

Installation fixings not included but we generally recommend using either a strong silicone adhesive or self-tapping screws, subject to the requirement. An area that is often overlooked is rats gaining access to the property via the drainage system. A fault within the pipe can be common and often goes undetected, leading to rats gaining access to internal cavities and gardens via tunnels under the ground. If you believe that this might be possible, we recommend placing a drain guard that creates a one-way system, thus preventing rats from accessing. The Mesh Company Rodent Mesh can be used to seal up any holes, gaps, or vents in a property to prevent mice from entering your home or business.

The Mesh Company has an enormous range of rodent mesh products. We truly are an industry leader among suppliers of weld mesh and woven wire materials. With the capabilities we have in-house, we can provide virtually anything you require. Below, we have outlined the properties of some commonly employed meshes. These include mesh to prevent the passage of rodents (both rats and mice), insects (including specifically midges) and for use in beekeeping applications. Of note, much of the information below has been advised to us by the British Pest Control Association (BPCA). Rodent Mesh (rats and mice) Our group have been in the mesh industry for over 150 years. We are one of the UK’s most trusted mesh suppliers because: Wrapping a rat cage in mesh can help prevent rats and mice from escaping and keep them safe from predators. Here’s how to wrap a rat cage in mesh: Screws: Screws can be used to attach rat mesh to metal or wooden surfaces. Use a drill or screwdriver to attach the mesh to the surface, making sure to use screws that are long enough to provide a secure fit.Always try to eliminate previous infestations before using a rodent deterrent. Otherwise existing problems will simply be moved to a different point of the location in question. Stainless steel wire meshis a harder material than mild steel and galvanised steel, so this is sometimes a preferred option for rat and mesh protection in office and factory environments Welded stainless wire mesh is known for being durable, versatile, and highly resilient in many different environments and temperatures. The consistent and sturdy product is manufactured through resistance welding without the use of filler metals. The finished material is not prone to rust or abrasion, making it a dependable choice for rat control and general rodent-proofing for homes and gardens as well as farming structures and equipment. Filtration – Poor. This mesh has a large open area, consequently it is popularly used as a fence or barrier. With 25mm holes, it is not commonly used for standard filtration applications

Aluminium: Aluminium mesh is lightweight and easy to handle, making it a good choice for DIY projects. It is also resistant to corrosion and can withstand exposure to the elements. However, it may not be as strong as other materials and may be more prone to warping or bending over time. Copper: Copper mesh is another option for rodent control. It is non-corrosive and highly malleable, making it a good choice for irregularly shaped areas. However, it is more expensive than other materials and may be less effective at preventing rodent entry. Nobody wants rodents running around. In fact, unclean animals can spread disease and lead to a deterioration in hygiene. In a commercial setting, mice infestations can lead to serious consequences. These products can be used to seal up any holes, gaps, or vents in a property to prevent mice from entering your home from business. They are a humane alternative to traps. Trim the excess: Once the mesh is secured, trim any excess mesh with wire cutters or scissors. Make sure there are no loose edges or sharp wires that could injure the rats. Rodents can not enter through the small 6mm² mesh holes, and hence this proofing method is highly recommended to prevent re-infestations after control of an issue.

The Mesh Company woven stainless steel mesh offers a high level of protection against corrosion. Moreover stainless steel is an alloy which is highly resistant to rusting and is therefore longer lasting than most other wire mesh types. Please note that delivery dates are not guaranteed.
