Color density heightens flesh tones, then enhances primaries further. Henry the Red’s uniform splashes against the yellows waving around him. Blood bursts from the screen with a gloriously vivid red. Audio While it’s true that the Evil Dead series became more and more campy over time, it felt like an organic transition. Most horror franchises tend to get more laughable as they go on, whether they’re intended to or not. Evil Dead II exists solely because of the mild bit of controversy that surrounded the original film, particularly in the UK where Sam Raimi was taken to task for it, even being brought in to testify in court for it (nothing ever came of it). Having a more comedic approach on essentially the same material is what Evil Dead II is. Army of Darkness, however, pulls out all the stops.

The Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition: The Complete Adventure Limited Edition is a 3-disc set here in the States that includes the DE in 4K, a newly-authored 4K of the previously-released Theatrical Cut as well as the Special Longer Version (included via seamless branching), and a Blu-ray full of bonus content that I’m told includes basically everything ever created and released for the film on home video. (I’m awaiting confirmation of the exact contents from the studio.) But it does NOT include a Blu-ray of the DE itself, nor are Blu-rays of the Theatrical and SLV versions included. The DE is available separately on Blu-ray, and obviously the Theatrical Cut Blu-ray was included in the original 4-Movie Collection from last year. isn't available in the same resolution. A 4K scan of the director's cut presentation is technically not possible. Shout Factory provides the Army of Darkness is an ambitious follow-up to Evil Dead 2. The production looks remarkable and better

The director’s cut adds 15 minutes of runtime to the theatrical version’s brisk 81 minutes. The differences between it, the theatrical version, and the international cut are too numerous to list in this review, so if you’re not already a fan, I would recommend watching all of them and deciding on your own. Personally, I’m usually partial to directors’ visions, so this disc has the one I like, including the aforementioned original ending that was changed after preview audiences gave the film poor scores.

Army of Darkness was also not a hit when it was initially released, but thanks to home video and repeated cable airings throughout the years, it became a cult favorite. It was such an aftermarket success that Universal allowed Anchor Bay Entertainment to release a Director’s Cut of it on DVD... many times over. Personally, I prefer the Theatrical Cut more. The original ending, which involves Ash accidentally sleeping too long and waking up in a dead world, just doesn’t seem to jibe with the campy thrill ride that came before it. It may have been a more befitting end for a “loud-mouth braggart” like Ash, but it clashes with the overall tone. One thing’s for sure: if that decision hadn’t been made, we might not have gotten the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series.Disc three is a Blu-ray with the director’s cut, while disc four is a Blu-ray of the international cut; both platters serve up extras too. As mentioned above, the latter features a 4K scan from the interpositive. There’s been some grousing online about why only the theatrical version is on a 4K disc, but, as they say, that was decided by folks well above my pay grade. perfect for Ash and Sheila. Gearon did a great job with the designs on Army of Darkness and these characters come to life with more NEW 2022 4K Scan of the Original Camera Negative approved by director Sam Raimi, director of photography Bill Pope, and editor Bob Murawski and there is plenty of comedy gold for Evil Dead fans (with an onslaught of great one-liners). Unlike The Evil Dead
