Description

Green reduces eye strain, and it’s a calming color, associated with peace and healing. In fact, green has been scientifically shown to lower blood pressure. It’s also the color most used on hospital walls. Code Blue. What it sounds like it means: Aggressively-scented cologne from Armani. What it actually means: Adult medical emergency, CPR response team required. Medical perspective: Someone is (technically) dead, and we are going to try to make them not dead. Brown Scrubs. Brown tends to be everyone’s least-favorite color for medical scrubs, and it’s not hard to see why. This color is often associated with bodily functions, which can give it an unpleasant connotation. In spite of this, brown is a calming, earthy color that comes across as approachable and non-threatening. While not technically medical uniforms, by the 80s and 90s, scrubs had become the unofficial uniforms of nurses and other medical personnel. Originally, scrubs worn by doctors were all white, as this color represents cleanliness. Though white scrubs are still used, it’s far more common for doctors and surgeons to wear green scrubs.

Red tag: A red tag indicates the most urgent treatment need. The individual has suffered life-threatening injuries but has a chance for survival if he or she receives immediate medical attention. The purpose of these wrist bands is to ensure patients are treated safely and effectively. Sight of a red wrist band will prompt healthcare staff to seek further information from patient notes regarding any allergies to make sure that patients are treated accordingly.05-Jul-2016 The color red has an alarming effect, literally speeding up one’s heart rate. It also doesn’t help a doctor and when he needs to be on the lookout for blood since they’re the same color. However, red can be a helpful choice in that it can lift the mood in an otherwise dull clinic. In 1991, Self Magazine created their inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue. The publication featured guest editor Evelyn Lauder, the Senior Corporate Vice President of the cosmetics giant, Estee Lauder and a breast cancer survivor. In 1992, Self Magazine teamed up with Estee Lauder again.Using a light pink ribbon to symbolize the cause, over 1.5 million of them were handed out at Estee Lauder counters across the country that year, and the cause produced 200,000 pink petitions that urged the White House to put more funding into breast cancer research. These light pink ribbons brought a community of people together for a common cause with astounding outcomes.

Leading change

These are considered "near miss events" and were a catalyst for several health associations and hospitals to re-evaluate the use of color-coded hospital wristband alerts.

Causes including addiction recovery awareness, craniosynostosis awareness, and foster care awareness are also represented by blue. Dark and light blue together represent hydrocephalus awareness.

Their staff have access to special equipment (eg hard collars, flat-lifting equipment, scoops) and colleagues with the expertise to use it, for patients with suspected fracture or potential for spinal injury. Yellow is used to symbolize awareness for certain diseases, such as bladder cancer, liver disease, obesity, and spina bifida. It is also used for missing children.
