Conwy is a medieval coastal town filled with narrow streets, charming little shops and of course Conwy castle that towers over it all. However, in the middle of a bustling cobbled main street stands Plas Mawr an Elizabethan 16 th century townhouse. The family sections’ lengthy hallways and dramatic rooms are typically filled with the sound of laughing children. The paranormal activity in this area is so intense that “Ghost Hunters International” flew from Los Angeles, California, to record an episode of their well-known television programme for the SyFy Channel. I recall in my early ghost hunting days visiting the castle numerous times at dusk where I felt captivated as I walked the halls and out buildings. It was also on one of those occasions where Randolph Turpin’s Lady in Red made her presence known to myself and three friends I was with at the time. She walked straight out of a wall into the courtyard we were standing in! Another carving that appeared on the wall was the name of the Gower’s young son, Quinn, and as well as seeing a pregnant girl appear and disappear on the grounds of the farm, there was also a sighting of a hooded figure standing over the cot where Quinn was sleeping. Other people have reported seeing a weird green mist and hearing children giggling. It is the ideal location for ghost-hunter brides and grooms to offer the wedding guests a frightening thrill. Roch Castle, Haverfordwest Plas Newydd is a historic house in Llangollen that has a history steeped in romance. The house is most famous for its residents Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby, two Irish women who ran away to start a life together in Llangollen. They were believed to be romantically involved and could have very well been the UK’s first openly lesbian couple. Because of this they were well known and coined the Ladies of Llangollen. Other ghostly figures include a boy who sprinkles salt on tables, a young girl from the Pugh family who is said to have been murdered at the hall for falling in love with a non-catholic boy and a soldier. An old lady is seen sitting by the fire place and guests feel like they are constantly being watched.Moments later she heard the door open and, turning round, saw a man in a gold-laced suit enter the room and cross to the window, where he proceeded to gaze out into the night. He said: “As well as being used as a jolly meeting place, it has a darker history. The pub was used as a courtroom where it is believed 200 convicts were executed by hanging over the stairwell." It is mostly of the Tudor era owned mostly by the Pugh family. Previously, the hall was known as a hideout for Catholic priests. The fire place contains a priest hole where terrified priests used to hide from the King’s men. So it is no wonder the ghost of a monk has been seen gliding through the Baronial Hall at Penrhyn Old Hall.

One man, John Crowther is a popular apparition to see on the property. Crowther was hanged to death as a sheep rustler and many people have claimed to have seen his figure in and around the pub. Gwydir Castle is a beautiful Tudor house in the Vale of Conwy near the town of Llanrwst. Within this aesthetically attractive house, however, a thoroughly unappealing event was said to have taken place – the murder of a serving maid whose body was subsequently concealed in a space within a chimney breast. These events would account for the ghost who has been most frequently experienced at the house, that of a young woman whose sightings are accompanied by an awful smell of putrefaction. A number of other spirits have also been seen, heard or felt here, such as various former residents, crying children and even a ghost dog! Plas Teg There have been numerous ghostly sightings at Margam over the years. It's believed that one frequently encountered spirit is thought to be Robert Scott a gamekeeper that worked at the Castle for many years. It is thought that scott was murdered by a poacher and his spirit still rages around the grounds today.Within the hall’s history it tells of a monk, William Davies, fleeing the King’s men and hiding in a cave on the Great Orme. He took with him a printing press and printed Wales’ first book. Davies was later caught, hung drawn and quartered in Beaumaris. In the tiny blue painted work shed that perches precariously at the very edge of the cliff, he wrote what is perhaps his best known poem Do Not Go Gentle into that Goodnight.
