To start with I REALLY like playing on it. The pieces have a nice feel and I have experienced no glitches except it didn’t seem to recognize enpassant when it came up in one of my games. I will have to ask DGT about that if it happens again. I ended up setting up the position using the physical pieces from their respective locations from the first step. However, because of the way Set-Up works on the Centaur it was a bit of an ordeal. I have also just bought the DGT Centaur. I have a collection of chess computers ranging in age and strength - nearly all attained via charity shops. Other, more expensive, boards by DGT and I believe also boards by Millenium have chipped pieces. If you insist on easily setting up custom positions, it might be worthwhile investigating those. This means that you'll have to setup a custom position via it's menu and buttons which IMO is, like I mentioned earlier, very tedious. I've done it once myself and decided there are better ways to do this (ie. Lichess, Lucas Chess).

I own one and had the pleasure of meeting with the CEO of DGT. He took me through the product, it’s features, and some of the engineering elements. As someone with quite a few chess computers, I was pleased to see a lot of improvements made. The board is thin and lightweight. Those cups underneath actually work as a sort of prism to help illuminate the board when moves are made. The extra queens is a nice touch. None of my electronic sets included those. Compared to my Grandmaster, the piece size slightly smaller but still satisfying to move. A hint system, suggesting the top moves. (Note that using this skewers the adaptive difficulty; The more you use hints, the smaller the probability to win on your own, at least that's my experience.) To start with I REALLY like playing on it. The pieces have a nice feel and I have experienced no glitches except it didn’t seem to recognize enpassant when it came up in one of my games. I will have to ask DGT about that if it happens again........

Thank you for the heads up. Non of my entry level to mid-range level computers have auto resign or offer draw feature - not even my most feature rich unit, the Saitek Talking Chess Academy. I tried going into Set-Up mode hoping that the computer would use the position I had onscreen as the selected position to set up. Again the Centaur had the final position displayed in Set-Up mode. It has a rechargeable battery, e-Paper display, intuitive settings in many languages and weighted plastic chess pieces. The computer moves are indicated by unique circular LED lights.

The most innovative Chess Computer that automatically adapts itself to your playing strength. It gives you a fair chance to win, to learn and, most importantly to have fun! Other chess computers are made to play at the highest strength. They are impossible to beat. At lower levels they play unnatural and unhuman. They are simply no fun to play against. Das Gerät verfügt über einen Akku, der mit einem separaten Netzteil geladen wird. Die intuitiv bedienbaren Einstellmöglichkeiten werden mehrsprachig über ein klares, reflexfreies E-Paper Display angezeigt. No individual piece recognition, so setting up a custom game position via the menu/GUI is very tedious.I see no way to export the PGN of the game. I have been writing down my moves for later analysis but being able to export would have been nice. I have been on the monitor but with the time I get tired and think that it is better to alternate between a board with real figures and the monitor. Centaur was made to give everyone a good game. Whether you are a beginner or a strong player, whether you are a home player or a club player, Centaur will adjust to you as soon as you make your first move. Its smart algorithm will automatically adjust to your level and always gives you a challenging game that is both educative and great fun! It has a hint system and the option to set up any position.

Out of interest, could your friend who has the King Performance tell you if it has the option of auto resign and offer draw? Adaptive level chess computer Centaur is a beautiful chess board that adjusts to your level of play - a suitable playing partner at all times! I have not experience any problems with my Centaur making moves and captures which is why I make this post because occasionally I come across folk who who blame the chess computer because they are not understanding the strict move inputs the computer requires. With the sensor board you can simply move pieces in a natural way. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, whether you are a home player or a club player, Centaur Always adapts to your level as soon as you make your first move! You don't need to buy anything whilst you are a beginner. Just practice lots of tactics, openings, watch the videos, use the lessons on here, and play live games and see where you went wrong in analysis- no need for anything else. Also use the forums for advice for beginners. There are many ways to learn to play chess ... and not just on the monitor because nowadays we have it ... and everybody can have different habits of how to learn something ... On January st you were still debating if you buy one and now five and a half weeks later you have one :-) this is by no means a negative comment from my side but thank you for your input. The battery took a LONG time to charge. About 5 hours but I was playing a lot while it was charging which I’m sure affected the time to full. Now that it has been fully charged I have played about 4 games and see no real drain on the battery. With the E-Ink display I am hoping it will last a long time.

There's no need for computer screens or tablets. Just start playing chess naturally with intelligent auto-sensing technology. Impressive looking weighted pieces and on board lighted display within the squares themselves engage you in a fully contained, highly-tactical chess play experience that you will enjoy for hours upon hours. Some have argued, with reason, for the money DGT are asking that the Centaur should have had more options. The option to enable/disable auto resign and offer draw would indeed have been a nice addition.Sound67: Actually, many of the later, better chess computers DID resign in a hopeless position or when they saw a mate against them coming. Even my 1983 Chess Challenger Sensory 9 had a "resign mode" (which could be disabled though). “ Stop using computer screens, tablets or telephones and start playing chess with Centaur on a real board with real chess pieces. Simply turn it on and make your move! Centaur is always there to challenge you, to help develop your game and to keep you sharp! No advanced chess computer knowledge is required. Just use the Centaur to play, learn, train, analyze and improve your skill level.
