Description

If you just applying a liquid or solid wax, or oil, that doesnt raise the grain so does not need denibbing. We have a great video on our You Tube Channel all about Denibbing >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR10L68iU_E&t=2s you only need to denib between coats to reduce the grain and give a smoother finish. You also need to wipe over the surface with a damp cloth to remove any sanding dust.

After the surface is completely covered rub down with a clean lint free cloth to make sure oil coverage is even. Repeat the process until the cloth comes away clean. The top should now be completely free of dust and extremely smooth. Your project should feel smooth. If it doesn’t that means that more denibbing is required, and after that if it still isnt smooth then it probably hasn’t been as sanded as well as it should of. I know of course if you’ve been watching my video’s that won’t be the case. Protect interior and exterior wooden surfaces with the unrivalled durability of wood varnishes. A great range of clear and coloured formulations. So if I understand correctly denibbing pads are basically any soft sanding pads at the required grit? I saw that denibbing is recommended with fiddes hardwax oil, how do you do this for a large area such as a floor? I assume you don’t use handheld finishing pads? Can a Floor Sander Drum be used with a fine grain or would this be too heavy handed and strip the finish? Denibbing is a really important step in applying any finish, it helps either the adhesion or absorption of further coats and can make a real difference to your projects. Denibbing Video Transcript

Sometimes referred to as synthetic steel wool, de-nibbing pads offer a cost effective alternative to other flattening mediums, such as sand paper and steel wool. Hi, I’m Ben O’Reilly From Wood Finishes Direct and Welcome to the Product Test and How to Video Guide, in this video I am going to be discussing

The worktops will be perfectly sealed with oil on the top, bottom, edges and end grain. We now use HABiol Oil throughout our pre-oiling service; this product is an ingression oil and as such requires fewer coats to achieve a durable, smooth finish.

Once the worktop is completely clean, you can begin to apply Rustin’s Danish oil, or our own Worktop Express Danish Oil for Worktops. Add a layer to the top and edges paying special attention to the end grain (this tends to be more absorbent than the rest of the worktop and may require extra coats). Manns Finishing Pads to do this. Denib just like I did with the varnish, follow the grain work across the I have heard that denibbing is a good thing to do after each coat of finish so I wanted to get some advice on where to get the pads from and what sort of grits? The cordless Perfect-it™ Denibbing Tool uses Trizact™ abrasive stems for consistent, pinpoint sanding of dirt nibs and very small repair areas. Unlike conventional abrasives, 3M™ Trizact™ products start sharp and stay sharp, resulting in more predictable finishes and improved, consistent quality. Trizact™ products last longer than conventional abrasives and provide precise finish control such that operators can reduce grade sequences, requiring fewer process steps and fewer abrasive products. Three-dimensional structures uniformly distributed over the entire abrasive surface enable consistent performance without product-to-product variation. Worry not, it is not the end of the world, if you have not denibbed. The purpose of doing this between coats is to smooth down any raised grain or imperfections that have occurred from the first application. There may be some benefit to adhesion, when you denib, but it will be limited and the second coat should be fine.

Operators understand it well: denibbing paintwork can be a temperamental — if tedious — process. You want to eliminate small imperfections without affecting the surrounding surface areas. 3M™ Perfect-It™ Denibbing Polish was engineered to reduce the time it takes to remove these tiny but noticeable imperfections. Perfect-It™ Denibbing System uses pinpoint micro-sanding to remove dirt nibs without flattening painted surfaces Support for Smaller Spaces Complete system for small area repair: consistent, pinpoint sanding of dirt nibs saves time and money The Worktop Express® pre-installation oiling service cuts out a lot of the legwork for you (see below for more information), but if you are planning on oiling worktops yourself or would simply like some top tips from our in-house oiling experts, please read on…
