Description

Our coir comes from the beautiful, friendly but so troubled country of Sri Lanka. We so passionately believe that fair trade is the best possible aid, allowing countries to develop with dignity, naturally. Only about 5% of our lowland peat bogs remain untouched - and the government has introduced very tough regulations regarding further extraction in this country.

Coir Pots are the PEAT FREE way of getting your seeds / cuttings off to the best start or for potting on seedlings. Being peat-free they are better for the environment and your plants. Coir Potsare also easier to use (no more clearing up plastic / polystyrene pots, because the pots simply rot down in the soil after use) and produce healthier, faster growing plants. Available in 3 different sizes.

Nothing is wasted, replacement gives employment, and the palms growth helps reduce C02 - what a wonderful way of saving the peat !

Starting your own plants from seed is a great way to save money when gardening. Yet dragging bags of starting soil into the house is messy. Filling seed trays is time-consuming and the sterilization needed to prevent disease is a lot of work. If only there were an easier way… Coir Discs for Seed Planting Expand the pellets – When using coir pellets for germination of seedlings, the dry flat disc must be soaked in water. Place the pellets in a waterproof tray. Make sure the small, imprinted hole is facing up. Pour warm water over the discs and wait for them to expand.

Germination – Once the seeds have germinated and the cotyledons have opened, it’s best to remove the plastic cover. Continue to water once daily to keep the pellets evenly moist. Provide light – Place the trays under grow lights or near a sunny window. Keep the pellets evenly moist while the seeds germinate. Adding a little water to the bottom of the tray once a day is usually sufficient.

We know, because coir, these organic fertilizers and our own green garden compost are really all we use. Maxi Coir Pots– 16 cm x 17cm depth – 1.5 lt. Perfect for potting on or for raising larger plants i.e. tomatoes and cucumbers.

Coir pellets for seed planting are fungus-free. Coir readily absorbs and holds water, yet doesn’t become supersaturated and soggy. The material remains loose for improved root formation and the netting surrounding the ground coconut hulls retains the shape of the pellet. How to Use a Coconut Pellet Seed Starting System
