Description

There's janky little things like a low fence with stairs next to it, and you can go down the stairs but cannot jump the low fence. Throughout the game, Briar and Lute will discover the truth about themselves and their power but must work together to stay true to their unbreakable bond. Subject to regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority and limited regulation by the Prudential Regulation Authority. As you move from one fixed camera position to another, the direction you’re moving compensates so that you shouldn’t constantly jump back on yourself.

Because of these scored and defined encounter areas, instead of free-flowing scoring against any enemies ala Devil May Cry, Soulstice starts feeling incredibly scripted. These make up the majority of the characters you’ll meet, but there’s only a handful of people in the game. Although the plot leaves many threads hanging, the development of the central sibling relationship and setting were enough to draw me into Soulstice’s world and want to see more. With a dull story and lackluster presentation, it might mostly be of interest to DMC fans on a budget. One look at any trailer will tell you this game aspires to be like the PS2 character action games of yesteryear. Yes, there are still some camera angles that are just bad, enemy mobs could be put together better, and there are some other annoying aspects of the game; but the edginess of the game soon became endearing, the characters grew on me, I started caring and snapped back to pay attention to the story, and after I had more battles under my belt, I actually liked the combat. Combined with its excellent art style and fun, grim setting, I went in incredibly excited for this title. That doesn’t mean not putting in the enemies that should spawn in a pack, or putting both Wraiths and Possessed at the same time, but just have encounters structured.

Some are great, a lot of them are good, but there are some that are just bad that it hampers your platforming since you can’t tell if you’re actually over a platform or slightly off to the side.Their purposes are undefined, it’s just a massive fortress city mostly infested with debris and red crystals. Now I’m not talking about enemies that buff their weaker counterparts, like the Alpha, cause I actually really liked those enemies, but even they come in when there are still too much on the field. Unity is for the purist, those who don’t want to delve into the evil side of Briar’s Chimera condition. And though its developer, Reply Game Studios, follows the recipe as best it can, Soulstice is a great reminder that not all character-action hack-and-slashers are created equal. Aside from the two or three instances that it makes sense, I not only felt there were too many enemies being thrown at you, but enemies that require more attention and maintenance showing up together, making it more annoying and overwhelming than it should be.

Several other Chimeras have also shown up to assist in the fight, all of whom you’ll eventually meet. I was pretty concerned during that stage that there was no depth to the game or the combat, but then you get to an actual stage and tutorial and it is better. It’s a lot to keep on top of but these mechanics are introduced gradually so as not to overwhelm you. The system of controlling both sisters and maintaining auras while slashing through foes is intuitive and simple to master. Soulstice is a solid, albeit unnecessarily dragged out, hack-and-slash action role playing game that features a great cast of characters and an engaging narrative.Your normal set of enemies can be attacked whether or not you have a field activated, but if you want to hit the blue or red enemies you need to have their colored field active.
