Upon leaving his native England for the Scottish theatre circuit, he found further success in stage shows with comedians Rikki Fulton and Jack Milroy. When Michael later joined the Royal Air Force, he was put into the medical section, but fearing he would collapse at the sight of blood, he spoke to his father, who, fortuitously, was butler to Air Chief Marshal Sir John Slessor, who was head of the medical services in the RAF.

He knew everything about television and he could control people and he was very conscious of the way he treated people. Glen spent an itinerant childhood as his parents gave up the boarding house they ran in Devon and entered domestic service. He was a regular in a string of STV comedy series, including The Rikki Fulton Hour ( 1965), Rikki (STV, 1966/ 7), Did You See Una? And I think in terms of your various dogs, I think they were in just enough, if you know what I mean. There are lots of ways you can do your bit to brighten up someone's day or help lonely or socially isolated older people.A regular feature of the show would see Glen read children’s birthday cards that viewers had sent in, which was quite the thrill back in the day. I: What I'm, I'm trying to think is there something that we haven't really covered that you would like to talk about? But Cavalcade was the big show that we had an audience of, well, one of the proudest things was that the Controller came to me one day and said, "Do you realise that you, that your viewing figures for the European Cup Final, you were up against the European Cup Final and you beat the European Cup Final!

I think the main impact came from the fact that it was actually, without being forced down their throats, it was coming from a venue. But he has also done broadcasting, he is keen to remind me, including six and a half years, every Thursday night, on Radio Clyde. And you spoke in to the camera and you sat on your own and I started to tell the story of Sam, the pig, which I'd got at home and I thought this was ideal for children because this was who the programme was going to be aimed at, I thought, and I got three quarters of the way through the story and then I forgot what I was talking about! Awesome Movies, timeless Music, a special Fashion sense, plus memorable Toys, Games and TV shows that have remained popular for over 30 years. And I let people think that it was a talking lamp but my idea was that inside that lamp was a person and he started off as a Highlander and I used to talk like that into the thing and you know what I mean?SCOTLAND'S TOP VIEWING; FROM WASH-HOUSE WIFIES TO CLASSIC COPS AND A TALKING LAMP, LEGENDARY PROGRAMMES KEPT OUR FAMILIES ENTERTAINED Record TV.

Born in Ayr, Michael came to prominence through his pantomime appearances with Rikki Fulton (1924 - 2004) and Jack Milroy (1915 - 2001). Then David Johnston and then we had, well, I forget the other ones, there was the one who went to London, I can't remember his name. Youngsters who have seen me only on television are inclined to be confused when they come to the theatre.

I had a knock on the door the other day, and a neighbour had left a jar of marmalade on my doorstep for my breakfast! There, the walls reflect a family man, whose children and grandchildren lie at the heart of his life. You had a wonderful, if you were recording a show you had a feeling that you were in the theatre doing the show, which was wonderful, you know. In Life's a Cavalcade, Glen looks back over an eventful and varied life which began in the picturesque Devon town of Paignton, where he was born Cecil Buckland. Glen's career continued with a move to Scotland, where he continued to appear on stage as well as in numerous TV plays and light entertainment shows for the BBC and the fledgling STV. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories. In 1966, then again from 1970 onwards the show also broadcast on most Christmas and New Year’s Days, until 1989. Scottish Television replace cavalcade with a number of new kids programming from 1993, including Skoosh and Wemyss Bay 902101.His daughter Yonnie is features editor at the Ayrshire Post and his son Christopher is a film editor in Glasgow.
