The length is slightly longer than my old Swiss made pair at 20cm (8”) but I found it didn’t really make a major difference to me. The slight weight reduction from the secateurs being made from single piece of metal, did however make a slight difference after a day of using them all day and I have felt a slight reduction in fatigue in my hands. Moreover, since the Specially designed was performed in building this new product, it is the grip which does not get tired easily in prolonged use. When you consider these factors before making a decision, you should definitely buy the pruning shears which are the best for you and which you would enjoy for a long time. Are Fiskars Pruners Any Good? Monty Don prescribed the Tobisho SR-1 Secateurs as his favorite pruning shears and one of the best designs in the world. Finally, these secateurs carry the distinctive Tobisho red and yellow handles. The red is highly visible by day and the yellow by night, allowing you to locate your trusted secateurs. The coloured handle sleeves are removable if you prefer a more traditional look.

We cannot speak highly enough of these Tobisho secateurs and its not just us. Britain’s favourite gardener, Monty Don also states that Tobisho secateurs are his favourite in a telegraph article. The Tobisho SR-1 Secateurs is made of great blade quality which is quite superior and which can keep you for a long time. When planning to buy a pruning shear, look at the ease of its maintenance. Is it a design you can easily take apart for cleaning and sharpening purposes? Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges)

It is a high-quality secateurs design which combines a great balance with a clean, razor-sharp cut.

Tobisho Secateurs/Pruners - Niwaki

These babies are bashed out of one piece of top quality Yasugi steel, from blade to handle, and combine the shape of the traditional A-Type with more modern production techniques, resulting in a light and balanced but strong pair of secateurs that are comfortable to use all day long. Fiskar is a Finland company which was established in 1649 and which has over the years built a global brand manufacturing various products from garden and yard care to cooking. There are different types of pruning shear designs but the 2 most popular are the anvil and the bypass designs.

It has quite a long warranty, cuts well and is smooth. On the cons of the product, some users reported the rotating handle was a bit uncomfortable for them. The blade holds its edge even after continuous use and doesn’t require as much touching up as other secateur brands. I’ve always been Felco-free. Never rated them. Once had an argument with a Felco fanatic. His were 19 years old and he wouldn’t be without them. We dissected his Felco’s. The only 19-year-old part remaining was the bolt. The nut had come off at some point and he’d never found it so the nut was new too! Most of our sharp tools are made from carbon steel - this means they may, through regular use, stain (and eventually rust) and gradually lose their edge. Caring for them involves three things… 1. Correct Use: New tools won’t need sharpening for some time, but after a while you’ll notice them gradually lose their edge, especially if you’re box clipping (you need REALLY sharp blades to get a good finish with box). Use the Niwaki Sharpening Stones for best results (#1000 grit is best for general sharpening).
