If they leave, they take a “treasure” from the deck corresponding to the city they are currently on. I don’t think it replaces them, but it offers a different enough experience that I don’t mind owning them all. And over the course of a few plays, I’ve come to admire the clever gameplay in addition to the beautiful components.

They mention it has stunning artwork, great production quality, and a fun little push-your-luck game. But it's a dangerous journey, and you'll have to fend off pirates and murderous flocks of birds as well as the machinations of the fellow crew. The Captain now discards the right amount of cards from their hand to keep the ship going, if they can’t, they don’t discard any cards but the ship will crash. Generally what happens is the Captain discards the cards as a sign they’re successful which means cards like ‘Hard Blow’ take effect AFTER the Captain reveals what they’re holding. You have these action cards, they all do something different and each is played at a particular time and under a particular condition. These dice may show some of the troubles that the captain has to fend off from his hand of cards or they may come up all blank, in which case it's plain sailing to the next island. The best word I can find to describe Celestia is ‘delightful’; maybe even 'whimsical', how about delightfully whimsical. The whimsical art of floating teapot islands is a delight but the crowning glory is the ship itself, a 3D cardboard structure that actually houses your player pieces and looks for all the world like a floating magical bathtub.

I stand by my opening statement that Celstia is a whimsical delight; it looks so beautiful on the table and is a really simple game to get your head around, yet at the same time it's such a great game, fun, adventurous and by far the best push your luck game I own. And in fact, it is this unnecessary chrome that elevates Celestia and propels players into the atmosphere it provides. Throw in Blam’s top-notch production value, and you have a family game that could do well this awards season.A game of Celestia is made up of several journeys during which adventurers travel in an aircraft, from city to city, towards Meiji, the City of Lights.

Celestia is perfect at 20-30 minutes; if it went too much longer, I wouldn’t be as fond of it as I am. If the captain does have the right cards, the ship flies onwards and the next player gets to be captain, if they don’t, the ship plummets from the sky taking everybody down with it.As passengers have already made their mind up, they can’t change it even after the dice have been re-rolled!
