Studio Buds are sweat and water resistant for non-water sports and exercise. Beats Studio Buds were tested under controlled laboratory conditions, and have a rating of IPX4 under IEC standard 60529. I also tested them all for the quality of their noise cancellation by standing directly in front of my clothes dryer while it was running. The Bose were the clear winner, eliminating a staggering amount of low rumbling noise, followed by the Audio-Technica. The Studio3 and Sennheiser performed about the same. Beats have always been known to have a more aggressive music profile than other more natural-sounding headphones, especially in the lower frequencies. As EDM and hip-hop are two of my favorite genres of music these days, it's nice to have a pair of cans that really let you feel the bass drop. The H1 chip is still very good though; it also lets you see the headphones’ battery per cent from the app you’re using to stream, which is handy. Using the Studio3s on quite a few calls during my testing, the call quality was clear on my end. When I asked other people if they could hear me, on multiple occasions they told me that the audio was clear, and they couldn't tell that I wasn't on a handset. That said, there’s something a bit on the nose about the presentation, they’re more confined than airy. This gums up the sound, stopping music from sounding properly separated. It can also seem resonant with certain songs, which is abrasive to the ear.We’ve heard this mid failing before in Beats headphones and noted how it makes the soundstage seem constrained, even though the problem is in the “middle”, not the top and bottom.
