After shooting a force field into the Quater Quell arena, Katniss Everdeen becomes the emblem of the rebellion. After President Snow destroyed all except District 2 of the other districts, she currently lives with the rebels in District 13. The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games" - an eight-part documentary covering the "making of" the film in all aspects from the pre-production process all the way through the theatrical release and fan reactions The highlight of the opening ceremonies is their arrival. The tributes begin their training after the festivities. According to Katniss and Peeta’s request, Haymitch tutors them together and tells them to keep their greatest abilities hidden from the other tributes. The Hunger Games is the first in a trilogy of books published by Scholastic that has already become a literary phenomenon with over 36.5 million copies in circulation. Set in the future, one male and one female from each of the twelve districts of the nation is forced to participate in the annual competition called The Hunger Games, which is broadcast live throughout the country for the entertainment of the Capitol’s wealthy residents. Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) volunteers in her younger sister’s place to enter the games, and is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy when she’s pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. Use the movie's depiction of Panem -- particularly the relationship between the Capitol and the 12 districts -- to discuss how much kids understand about totalitarian governments and dictatorships. What does President Snow mean when he says he doesn't root for "underdogs"? Or that too much hope is a dangerous thing? Why are there more bleak portrayals of the distant future than optimistic ones? What are some other books and movies that feature a post-apocalyptic or post-war future?

How does the movie compare to the book? What are the main differences? Is it different to see violence rather than to read about it?

More than half of the film is set before the 75th annual Hunger Games begin. Much of that time is spent deepening our comprehension of this savagely cruel society and heightening the stakes for the impending insurrection. To start, this movie is one of the best I have ever seen. I LOVE the books, and this is probably one of the best book to movie adaptations I've seen in a long time. But before you go letting your 9 year old watch it, let's go over the story, as well as the pros and cons. The original Death Race 2000 is one of my favorite films of all time. It is campy, B-movie fun with a serious satirical streak to it. The film spawned a remake / prequel in 2008, which in turn spawn two, soon to be three sequels, none of which really captured the essence of the original. However, Death Race 2050 is produced by Roger Corman, so does that mean it will be closer in tone and quality? They meet Effie Trinket, their escort, and Haymitch Abernathy, their alcoholic mentor and the lone surviving Hunger Games winner from their district, who vows to sober up enough to assist Katniss and Peeta survive the Games after recognizing that they have some fighting spirit. Katniss and Peeta meet their stylists as they arrive at the Training Center.

An unfortunate catalyst that propelled the trend of teenage protagonist led book adaptations, of dystopian futures. Divergent and Maze Runner followed, both failing to complete their respective stories. Perhaps that has tainted the memory of a satisfactory film, undefinable by genre. On the one hand, courage, self-control, and perseverance -- plus teamwork among like-minded friends -- can help you survive in harsh conditions, such as a dictatorship. But lying and deception are also rewarded. A new chapter in the Hunger Games franchise, directed again by Francis Lawrence, and starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler opens exclusively in theaters on November 17 ... Full Movie Details. How does Katniss compare to other female leads in young adult stories? What are some of her unique character strengths? What are her views on love, marriage, and kids, and how are they tied to the unimaginably dire circumstances she endures?

No product placements in the film, but the viral marketing and merchandise tie-ins for the movie (and books) include a line of themed nail polish, as well as apparel, jewelry, games, and more.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2-disc Edition) [DVD] The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2-disc Edition) [DVD]

To sum it all up, it is one of my all-time FAVORITES! The story is intriguing and well thought out, the violence is fairly bloody but not overly gory, swearing and sexy stuff are kept to a minimum, and the alcoholic character sobers as the movie goes on. There are great messages and lessons we can learn from this movie. I think it is appropriate for nearly all teens, but it's an iffy choice for anyone under 13 years old. Katniss gets to experience luxury like she’s never experienced before on the train, and she gets to eat the richest, most sumptuous meals imaginable. Drinking/drugs/smoking:2/5, One character, who is haunted by his violent past is addicted to alcohol, but there is nothing else.Nevertheless I'd quite happily re-watch the first act, but would have no qualms with skipping the rest. Letters from the Rose Garden" featurette - insights from Donald Sutherland on the development of his role as President Snow Positive role models:3/5, Katniss is a resourceful heroin who selflessly volunteers for her beloved sister, Prim. Throughout the whole movie, Katniss is courageous and selfless. Peeta, a fellow tribute, is a loyal friend to Katniss. The Hunger Games begins in District 12 on the day of the reaping. The story’s 16-year-old narrator, Katniss Everdeen, goes off to meet her buddy Gale so they may go hunting and collecting before the reaping that afternoon. Stretched so far it's see through, the ending is blatant from the get go, meaning there's not much to keep you interested after the half hour mark.

Katniss and a team of rebels from District 13 prepare for the final battle that will decide the fate of Panem. Are The Hunger Games Movies on Netflix, Prime, Disney Plus, HBO, or Hulu? Where to Watch The Hunger Games Online? There's only one wide release this week, In the Heart of the Sea, although some sources still have Legend expanding nationwide. Of course, expanding nationwide doesn't mean the same thing as expanding truly wide. Because In the Heart of the Sea doesn't have any real competition this weekend, it is widely expected to earn first place, but it isn't expected to be a smash hit. It is very unlikely it will do as well as last year's number one film, Exodus: Gods and Kings. The depth is a little better this year, but 2015 will still likely struggle to match 2014 in the year-over-year comparison. When Katniss meets Cinna, a young guy who dresses casually and uses very little makeup compared to the other stylists, she is pleasantly delighted. Katniss and Peeta are introduced as a pair at the opening ceremonies, a method that has never been done before. Katniss gets the moniker “girl on fire” as they race through the Capitol in a chariot while holding hands, their costumes glowing in false flames.Gary Ross shows wonderful craft and delicacy when concerning the dark themes of oppressed society, life without choice and just how bleak living in a dictatorship is. In the first act he manages to craft a tone and atmosphere that reeks of desperation, fear, the empty void of hopelessness and life without control. Yet he lifts the mood with the slightest and smallest of scenes between Kat and Gale, serving as a reminder of humanity's ability to dream and aspire for a better world. Each shot set in District 12 is delightful, sombre chills run through every vein as you are enraptured in fear and anxiety. The build up to and throughout the reaping is tense and nauseating, interactions with Kat and her sister are filmed so preciously. Sound is well utilised through the overdrawn run-time, music is allowed to overrun and dominate, drowning out the world perfectly and symbolically. An example that comes to mind concerning the sound is when Kat offers herself up, her screaming juxtaposed against the silence sets her out from the rest, nailing her on as the protagonist we will all route for. Selfless.
