I hope MUJI continues to expand their Canadian footprint – right now they only seem to focus on Toronto and surrounding areas. I think it’d make sense to expand to other major Canadian cities. C’mon, MUJI! Then I did a blind test. I placed both Shiseido and MUJI in my cotton dispenser, randomly alternating them. And I could not tell the difference! 😮 As with the Shiseido, MUJI instructs that you can peel the cotton apart and use them as spot “mask” treatments when soaked with toner / essence. There are plenty of great cotton pads to be found at the drugstore, but these take the cake. The quilted texture is strong and durable, easily resisting any piling or shedding. Still, they’re soft enough even to use on the delicate skin around your eyes when you need to take off waterproof mascara or eyeliner. In did notice on my last Muji visit that the cut cotton looked similar to Shiseido. Thanks for reviewing it! Will have to get my hands on it soon (I’m running out of my usual Daiso cotton). I’ve been using both MUJI and Shiseido cottons interchangeably for the past month to get a true sense of how similar or dissimilar they are to each other.

Cut Cotton White – Shiseido Facial Cotton DUPE MUJI Cut Cotton White – Shiseido Facial Cotton DUPE

Haha we call people who think they’re the most unique person in the world and require special attention, “Special Snowflake”… 😛 If you're looking for a cotton pad that does it ALL, look no further than the Shiseido Facial Cotton. Made with 100 percent cotton, these bbs are super soft yet incredibly durable due to their whopping 27 layers. As the name suggests, these super-absorbent pads are more of a cotton pad-sponge hybrid. They’re made from a combo of natural cotton pulp and cosmetic-grade rayon, which gives them almost a cushiony or bouncy texture. It also ensures that they won’t pill and increases their absorbency, so you can apply less of your beloved skincare products to the pad and still get the same result. If you wear eye makeup and use micellar water instead of cleansing oils/balms, you will probably prefer the Shiseido ones since they are harder to rip and less likely to curl up on you. If you love the Shiseido ones and you live in Canada, I think it’s worth it to give the Quo ones a shot. I’ve never tried Shiseido but I love the MUJI cotton that you sent me. It’s not the white but they work really well and they are very affordable. Who doesn’t like a little stationary with their beauty? LolI was going to make this post a “journey of discovery” and keep it a mystery on whether the MUJI is a dupe or not for the Shiseido, but I’m just going to come out and tell you that YES, the MUJI Cut Cotton in WHITE is indeed a viable DUPE to the cult favourite – and pricey – Shiseido Facial Cotton.

Everyone can have a little bit of luxury on the low-low with these super chic Chanel cotton pads. Yes, they'll look pretty on a vanity, but they're also super soft and great for applying products. I think that's a win-win, right? MUJI is such a unique concept. I’ve started to really like their CLOTHES too. Such good quality and all classic styles. Also, don’t forget the FOOD – I just bought another 2 bags of those marshmallows with the gummy bits inside! In addition, MUJI sells “Peelable Cotton”, and “Cotton Puffs” (thanks to Polished & Inspired for pointing this out!) which are not the same as the Cut Cotton. MUJI Cut Cotton WHITE is what you want! 😀 I got my mom to do a blind test to see which one she likes. She preferred the Quo ones because they were softer (and also they were fatter – more layers). I tested them out and agree that the Quo ones are actually softer, but the Shiseido ones are stronger. When you try to tear them, it takes more force to pull the Shiseido ones apart and are therefore better to use for eye makeup (especially waterproof makeup). If you’re only wearing face makeup, the Quo ones are a great way to save some money. You can use the Quo ones for toner and removing face makeup, and buy the Shiseido ones for eye makeup. First, let’s explain what a “dupe” is in the beauty world. A dupe is a product that replicates another product in terms of colour, finish, texture, longevity, performance etc. A mimic, if you will. A dupe is helpful when:Hi, hello! Did you know that you can actually exfoliate with cotton pads as well? If you want a little extra "grit" when applying toners, cleansers, astringents, or when removing nail polish, these are a great, gentle option to consider. Listen, soft, delicate cotton rounds are great for your face. But when it comes to removing nail polish? You're going to want a durable pad that holds up. Enter: The Graham Hands Down Ultra Nail and Cosmetic Pads. Your nail polish doesn't stand a chance against these bbs. I was searching for a review of the Ecru vs Shisedo & found your amazing in-depth review – huge props for the photos – I am also a facial cotton aficionado & deeply appreciate your work! 👏 Some cotton pads are smooth on both sides, which is ideal for everyday use and for anyone with sensitive skin. Other options are smooth on one side and slightly textured on the other. The textured side can be used for exfoliation or removing stubborn nail polish, and the smooth side can be used for removing eye makeup and applying various skincare products. Most cotton pads on the market are designed for single use. Though they're usually not exorbitantly expensive, using one or more a day can add up. With larger pads, Dr. Engelman says you can "cut each square in half to make them last longer."
