There are so many things I want to speak about and discuss but at the same time, I wonder if it wouldn’t be more appropriate to just ask you to please read this book. I think that Jas did not do this to deliberately defy her parents, it was more because she was tired of having the same look and she wanted to be different and stand out as an individual. The author has done an exceptional job of displaying the emotions of the characters, it is this and Jamie's hopeful outlook that make the book flow brilliantly and make you want to read every last word. It certainly contributes to the feeling of helplessness that lingers throughout the whole narrative, and makes you ponder about just how important family bonds are when you're Jamie's age. Jamie had great excitement especially when he found out that his Dad had given him a pair of football boots.

In a spur-of-the-moment decision, Jamie’s father takes the ashes and throws them into the pond behind their house. Jas has been deeply troubled by the death of her sister, yet it doesn't bother Jamie since he was too young to really know Rose and thus he hasn't cried since. When his mum walks out on him, his dad and remaining sister, his dad turns to alcohol, and they move to the Lake District for a new start. Beautifully written, and told through the eyes of a 10-year-old Jamie, whose innocence and sweetness makes the book feel all the more poignant. There are so many books and movies meant to help children grieve, and so few that tell them that it's ok if they don't feel the grief their families want them to. Jamie's parents, unable to deal with the blame and guilt they place on one another, have finally split up.

A mother who left her family after her husband became too controlling in the aftermath of their daughter's death. I think this is because the author explains the many controversial subjects through the eyes of a 10-year-old boy who obviously doesn't think about them in the same way as an adult would. My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece broke my heart and made me feel all warm inside at the same time. Their mum could not stand Jas no longer looking like an exact replica of Rose and ran as fast as she could, then their father moves them to a small town where he is going to work, but instead spends his time drinking himself into oblivion while staring at Rose’s ashes.

It is a true story in the fact that it has happened to all ages but not to the people named in this book. It focuses on and is narrated by ten-year-old Jaime Mathews, who moves with his teenage sister Jas and their alcoholic father to the country from their home in London, after his mother has an affair and leaves the family. A KO for our new Dracula scheme for year 9 including: plot summary, key characterisation terminology, a list of explicitly taught Tier 2 and 3 vocabulary, a definition of Gothic Literature and guide t. Jamie’s dad moved the family away from the city is an attempt to distance his family from his memories of the event that he blames on ‘all’ Muslims.Slides 1-6 have used some activities from Pobble 365 (The Trench) - one or two activities have been ad. I quite liked how the author depicted most of the adult as well as the kids as complex characters, and how they interacted with each other. His mother and father are separated, mother has found another lover, father has become a fervent Islamophobe, and his other sister Jas, lives in the shadow of Rose, the one that died.
