Having no audio is mostly self-explanatory; your guitar is plugged in, but it’s not making any noise. Whether you're connecting with the Real Tone Cable, the Rocksmith+ Connect app, or your own ASIO or WASAPI device, this Connectivity and Troubleshooting Guide is here to help: RS+ConnectivityGuide. Before you use any audio equipment or soundproof your space, make sure you have been properly instructed by an expert and adhere to all safety precautions. As many people have been asking for my help, I figured out I'd make this guide here, as steam would constanly kick the guide off.

What most players discovered is that the issue with the Real Tone Cable starts with the USB connection.Latency is the delay between the time you pluck a string on your guitar and Rocksmith actually registers it.

The cable allows you to hook up any electric guitar or bass directly to your computer, so you can experience the game in full effect. Humbucker pickups tend to work better with the Real Tone cable, so if you have a guitar equipped with them it will probably provide the smoothest experience. That's really a pitty because my sound card can go very very low with its asio driver (it's an Asus Xonar Essence STX), like down to 5ms on Cubase. This way you will be getting audio directly from the console and you can avoid latency between the console and TV speakers. Note that most modern consoles will have a digital audio output, so you need a more specialized cable like TOSlink to connect your console to the speakers. When calibrating, once the game asks you to mute the strings after playing, make sure you mute them with your hand and immediately release them. Following these steps will lead you to the experience you want to continue having on your PC, PS3, or Xbox system.

I even tried using my VOICELIVE2 (TC HELICON voice harmonizer) which has an USB audio interface: all the same! As I said, this is more for casual players or people who just want to practice rather than actually play the game. Here are some reasons why you should scrap it altogether and play Rocksmith without a Real Tone Cable in favor of a more customized setup. Often times when you are not getting any audio in Rocksmith, it comes down to the Real Tone cable or your device not interfacing with it. Plus, the fact that it's required for all versions of Rocksmith means extra safety and peace of mind. Whether you got the bug from the Rock Band series, the Guitar Hero series, or watching someone else play, Rocksmith brings you to a real guitar.

It may be slightly on the pricier side compared to other USB instrument cables out there, but with its high quality build and easy setup process, this cable is definitely worth every penny. The microphone also comes with gain control, polar patterns, and compression with isolation to provide Rocksmith with a pure sound. As far as I am aware, as long as your PC detects the cable as "Rocksmith USB Guitar Adaptor" and the cable has an output of 1 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality) rocksmith will accept it as a realtone cable. The USB guitar cable is essentially the same as the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable, but with a USB connection on one end instead of a 1/4th inch guitar jack. If you’ve ever played Rocksmith before, then you’ll know that the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable is probably the most frustrating thing about the experience. Using the motherboard sound chip digital optical output (so that I don't get the crappy DA conversion) to my MOTU as a TOSLink it's working great now: I have been able to set the buffers as low as 1x 160 samples (down from 2x 1024).
