Alternatively, if you are heading out for a day long exploration then it’d be recommended to apply some in any troublesome areas. Because it needs a generous portion per ride, the 50g tub we tested didn’t last very long, but knowing we were using an eco-friendly, chemical-free product produced by a small company more than made up for that.

If you’re not looking for a minty fresh feel on your nether regions or thighs, opt for creams that omit these tingly ingredients.I've never been as comfortable after hours in the saddle with chamois cream as I have with Crotch Guard. Assos Chamois Cream is a popular pick among cyclists, which makes sense since it was developed by a Swiss cycling apparel company. Many expensive cycling shorts mention that their chamois contain anti-bacterial silver but you can make your own colloidal silver for virtually nothing and use it wherever you don't want bacteria. Note that for long rides, especially in hot weather when you sweat like crazy, you may need to reapply chamois cream along the way. The formula claims to be 'ultra-endurance' and given the long-lasting comfort I'd be very happy taking this with me on a multi-day in terms of comfort.

I use the assos one twice a day for commuting through winter and a tub lasts 6 months (mine is close to running out after starting to use in October). Must try one of these specialist products one day, but coco butter (the hard stuff) works wonders, and it is cheap as chips.Buttshield is a very, very good chamois cream, although it's not really a cream and more of a liquid.

Bepanthan is a better cream for that purpose and would work well as a chamois cream, it is longer lasting and better in sweat or wet conditions than sudocrem because it is more oily. Pros: Contains tea tree oil, aloe vera, and witch hazel, which work to decrease bacterial and fungal overgrowth. There isn’t an industry standard for bike short sizes—they can vary by brand, and even by cut and model year. that’s not always the answer,” explains Paula Dyba, marketing vice president and creative director at Terry.Feel free to follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Strava, or subscribe to Cyclists Hub YouTube channel. The product claims it’s non-staining, though one reviewer mentioned the cream has stained their clothing, so your mileage may vary.

The Squirt Barrier Balm chamois cream is effective in wet and changeable weather, staying put after three to four hours in the saddle.

This being said, you may need to apply a little more product if you are planning a particularly long ride, whereas you may not need any at all on shorter rides. Some brands make women’s-specific chamois cream, which contains different ingredients from the men’s version. I was under the impression that a good quality pad allowed your body to move independantly to the saddle and therefore does not require extra lubrication. This chamois cream does provide a mild cooling function - but we found it's not in any way jarring and certainly didn't make our tester feel chilly, in the way the Assos cream did.
